New event - California Mile
« on: February 24, 2016, 06:48:15 PM »
The SCTA today announced that the association is promoting a new event. To be held on April 23-24th at the Mojave Space Port.

This is a paved one mile event using SCTA classes and offering the only certified National Paved Mile records in the LSR community. Please visit the SCTA web site, www.scta-bni.org, or the SCTA Face Book page, www.facebook.com/SCTASouthernCaliforniaTimingAssociation/ for the pre-entry form and more details.

125 entries are needed,

Is this going to be a points and record event that will be separate from the lakes. I remember Muroc was this way. At least for records.

I think it is great that SCTA is putting the effort forward to put on this type of event but personally feel a $400 entry fee for a 2 day event is considerable.  ECTA 3 day events are $300 and 2 day events are $250.  125 entries at $400 is $50,000.  Maybe raise the entry numbers required in the future to 165.  That would lower the cost to $300 per entry but still bring in almost the same amount.  Requiring 180 entries would lower it to $275 per entry roughly.

200 plus entries for an event like this located in Calif. would be very doable now or in the future considering the success of these events in the East,

I won't be entering at the new event - so don't have that kind of dog in the discussion about fees.

But look at it this way before you suggest alternative rates and stuff, gentlemen:  The SCTA has suffered some serious money-losing times thanks to a bunch of factors, one of which is the fact that we race on natural race courses -- so can't control them all that well.  And we've had crappy courses for a couple of years.

So SCTA managed to, evidently, cull through a bunch of stuff form the "short" track events from Maxton to EM and Mohave and so on, no doubt.  And they've found a place to run -- even if they aren't the first to use the site.

I was there last summer and it's so new to many of the folks that were there -- competitors, officials, spectators -- that I'd sure be in no hurry to crank up the numbers for huge participation.  Let 'em get a year in before they try to start fine-tuning very much.  Pay the higher fees and be happy that you're getting to run at a new type of event for the SCTA.

Thanks, ladies and gennulmen! :-D

SCTA Club members only, or are BNI members permitted to run?

BNI members are totally welcome to set a record. The guest will be left out of the record program.

Glen,
Just like Muroc, open records are trending. There is some discussion about minimums but the final decision awaits to see if there are enough entrants to make a show.

By the also way,Mike Spacek and Bob the Web Elf are conspiring to put a direct link to the new event on the home page of this website -- up there in the left/top area.  Not there yet -- but they was a-workin' on it before sunup this morning, I know.

You might. I just drove the pre-run last year and my truck felt the dips, etc. Maybe someone who did compete can answer your question. I do know the unsprung vehicles were complaining.

Dave Isley has the orange REMR. No suspension, 248 mph @ Bonneville, 221 mph @ El Mirage, 160 or so at Mojave last year... You need suspension.

That's interesting certified paved mile records. How about doing such a thing here on the right coast where paved mile LSR events have been held for more than 20 years now? I'm sure a qualified certification team could be found here in the East if needed.

Ronnie,

Please review my topic re: certified paved mile records from late last year. I don't remember the post title but I am sure some one can find it.
