This may be a little "off-track" here, but please be aware that if the
weather doesn't cooperate, the racing won't happen.

Two years ago, I drove 600 miles to Bonneville, only to find it underwater.
No racing took place.  So I drove 600 back home.

Last year I was smarter, and kept checking the weather conditions as well
as reports of the condition of the salt.  There was too much rain, and the
race course was a lake.  So I stayed home, instead of spending about 20
hours driving and all the costs associated therewith (including a motel room).

Good luck to all of us this year.  If you go, I'm sure you will enjoy it a lot.

If you're just spectating, a backup plan in the event of rain could include -

Bryce Canyon
Moab
The Grand Canyon
Vegas
SLC
etc.

On the drive back, stop for the Knoxville Nationals in Iowa, or the Iowa or Wisconsin State Fairs bookend Speedweek.

Once you've gone that far, there's plenty to see, and most of it doesn't look much like Ohio or Massachusetts.

There's a lot happening that time of year, and if you're creative, it's possible to put together a contingency plan that would actually come pretty close to being almost as much fun as Speedweek.

Take Utah Scenic Highway 12 and drive from Bryce Canyon to Torrey and then S.H. 24 to Hanksville, Utah.  The road is in the south-central portion of the state.

I guarantee that you will never forget that ride - and that you'll be telling folks about it for the rest of your life.  It's THAT good.  Oh, yeah -- take not just your camera but some extra memory for it and maybe even a battery charger.  That's how many photos you'll be taking.

Me too. Didn't even unload the car last year. Done that a couple of times now (can you say 1982?)

My wife says not much better, scenery wise, than Old Rt 89 south  toward some of  the parks listed above. North rim of the Canyon, Vermilion Cliffs, go east to Mesa Verde, Durango, Canyon De Chelly etc.

I want to go back ! Live in S Jersey and attend Ohio mile whenever I can and have been to B'ville several times. Nothing like it in the world.
