Speedweek procedure
« on: August 08, 2006, 01:06:08 PM »
Well I think we are ready to run.  The trailers are ready, the race car is done and we will leave Thursday night for the 4 hour drive. We are a rookie team, and have no Idea what to expect on the first day.  For instance, we have watched people have their cars teched, but what can we expect when teching a new car.  Does any one care were we set up our pits. And speaking of pits, were do we get pit passes for our pit vehicles.  What about checking in.  Do we do that first and then tech or is it done all at once.  Any info would be appreciated.

Here's my third try at answering your questions.  If this doesn't work -- forget it!

First inspection is traumatic.  For everybody.  Don't forget to bring your uniform and other driving equipment to inspection.  New vehicles usually have their own line to the right.

Pits are on a first come, first served basis.  Yes, there are some marked with car numbers and reserved.  Don't get pissy about this.  Most of these guys got here days before you did and have been working.

You will get all your paperwork while you are in line.  It's good to bring copies of whatever you've already sent in.  You will get your push car pass and crew passes after you finish inspection.  You might have already gotten a pit pass with your BNI membership if you have pre-entered.

Pick your pit first, unload your vehicle and take it to inspection as soon as you can.  Depending on your circumstances, you crew can set up the pits while you're in line or even later.

Hope this helps, see you in a couple days!

It can be a pleasant, learning experience. If you are pre-entered, bring your packet. If it had a copy of the back of the inspection form you should have already pre-inspected your own vehicle. Line by line.  The inspector will be more thorough. Fill out the front legibly. You want your timing tag to be rite, right?

PLEASE HAVE WHOEVER IS GOING TO PUT YOU IN THE CAR AT THE STARTING LINE DO IT AT HOME BEFORE YOU LEAVE..HAVE THE BELTS AND LIMB RESTRAINTS FITTED TO THE DRIVER AND NOT IN THE NEW UNOPENED PACKAGE. HAVE THE DRIVER PREFITTED IN THE COMPLETE DRIVING SUIT ,GLOVES, BOOTS, HELMET NECK RESTEAINT, ETC PRIOR TO LEAVING. BE ABLE TO REACH ALL CONTROLS WHILE STRAPPED TIGHTLY IN THE CAR.  You would be suprised how many cannot do this.

When asked to exit the vehicle as in an emergency, do it with direction to get out quickly. When I inspect, there is no time limit. I want to see you get out of the car with out being trapped by a belt or anything else...Practice at home. You would be suprised how fast you can get out with a little practice.

If you have a log book fill it out completely. If you don't have one get it while you wait in line and fill it all out especially the front. Only the owner knows the answers.

Know your engine and vehicle classification codes...They are in the rule book...Ask if you need help, it could cost a record. Write them in the log book too.

We are all here to have fun first, a record will come later.

One last thing. If it past 4:00pm and you've been in the sun too many hours waiting remember so has your inspector....We all can loose our patience...Good Luck
