Specifically, engine oil getting past valve stem seals and guides contaminated mixture causing detonation. Lost #1 and 2 Pistons, with #2 ring land and part of top ring going thru the chamber causing lots of damage. It does not look like there are cracks in the chamber, and the dents and scratches are sort of repairable. I have another set of pistons, but not new and not as good as the parts I just lost....
The parts I have built with this year are latest Esslinger Midget motor stuff, and the failure is as you all would agree devastating. When I had the head disassembled and skin cut for a surface finish good for a MLS gasket, the head guy did not replace the lip seal (NOK) type of valve stem seals and I think that is the source of oil. All 4 cylinders show signs of oil conntamination but only the 2 detonated. I have a second set of pistons, but not as good as the originals and use a dykes rather than gas ported top ring.
So, I'm trying to figure out what else is damaged and how to recover so we might make WOS or WF.
