Finally getting back to the salt for 2013. Pray for me, driving my wife's Lexus and have not told her about the salt. ( she will be with me )

Does she have to know?

How 'bout promising to stay on the "hard" salt and that you'll avoid the soft parts where it can get thrown up under the car?  And tell her that driving through puddles (if you should find any) will help wash off the salt that has somehow managed to get on the undercarriage?  Yeah, maybe she'll be lieve that and won't hassle you.

Otherwise there's always my suggested way to rinse the car after you get home.  Assuming the car is about five feet overall in height -- find a quick=-flowing stream at least 6 feet deep and park the car in said stream, windows open, for three or four days.  Pull the car out, let it drip dry, and you'll be rid of a good portion of the salt.  Next drive on a bumpy road and look at all of the salt (using the rearview mirror) that's falling out even though you rinsed in the creek for days.

At least that's how it seems to work.  We can wash the bejeesus out of the bikes all winter long, and even strip them to the bare frame -- but put it together, put the engine back in and strap the bike to a dyno -- and watch big chunks of salt materialise out of thin air.

Here ya go, I found the announcement:

"SCTA Announces Audio Streaming of the 2013 Bonneville Speed Week Orosi, CA USA, July 30th Tuesday, 2013

Scott C. Andrews SCTA Secretary/Chief Timer

The SCTA wishes to announce that for the first time a live audio broadcast will be available through the SCTA website www.scta-bni.org. This is a first for the SCTA in officially releasing real time audio information from the famed Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah during this year's Speed Week.

Sponsors, fans, supporters and families of those in competition can join with the announcing staff consisting of Harold Osmer and Ron Christensen during the entire week of speed trials and record setting attempts this year. The SCTA is expecting in excess of 500 vehicles in competition to break those elusive and special SCTA Bonneville records and now you can hear the show as it happens live.

To hear this year's show simply go to the SCTA website www.scta-bni.org and look up the link under 2013 Bonneville Speed Week information. After you have clicked on the link you will be sent to a special page with the show streaming live.

The Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) sanctions land speed racing trials in two locations. Racing is conducted six times each year at the El Mirage Dry Lake bed in Southern California and also the world renowned Bonneville Speed Week in August combined with the World Finals in October of each year at the Bonneville Salt Flats in northwestern Utah."

Will there be any FM broadcasting. A lot more convenient if you are on the salt.

I've seen 88.9 and 89.7 bandied about for this year, but yes, traditionally, it's a one lunger broadcast system they use.

I doubt if they'll be transmitting Inspection.  Some verbiage might violate FCC regulations.

I believe I've heard that the streaming audio will be the stuff taken from the FM broadcast radio.
