Motorcycle mounting/bal in Wendover?
« on: June 26, 2013, 07:32:26 PM »
Is there any place to get a motorcycle tire mounted and balanced during SpeedWeek? I plan on having an extra wheel and tire built-up ready to go but I was thinking about bringing an extra tire also. Just in case?!

Cool thanks for the heads up. I hope I don't need to go there but better to know ahead of time.

I saw that tire pic.  You also need to bring a shovel.

To fill that 3 mile trench you are gonna cut when you hold the throttle open on your monster! :-o

Quite a project, thats for sure.  See you there.

Most of us old bikers can change tires and static balance them on the salt if sufficiently bribed.

What's there to changing a tire?  A couple of tire irons and you done.
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

I could load my air compressor, generator and buy a static wheel balancer. Just seems like a lot of stuff to bring with to change a tire. In the past I brought everything but the kitchen sink and never used most of it. I would only needed it to change my backup for the backup.

We've used the shop that's next to Motel 6 in Wendover -- more than a few times.  I don't remember the names of the guys that run it, but - while they look kinda like you'll wait for everyone that lives in their block at home to get work done before it's your turn -- they haven't taken more than a couple of hours at the longest.  I don't know if the spin balance or bubble balance or suspend the wheel between a couple of tacos, but last SW they swapped a front tire for us (when we had developed a chunking problem on a front, believe it or else!) during our long lunch hour, and that afternoon both Jason McVicar and I rode the bike over 200 without any balance issues.  Take that for what it's worth.  I think we paid 'em $15.  And since there's an ice cream and taco shop in the same building -- you can eat while you wait.
