For you folks out at the meet today and tomorrow, Marlo Treit is there with a roadster he and his crew restored for a close friend. Marlo is going to drive it. Don't know the number but it is a total surprise for his friend who is disabled. Marlo is one special guy and a true landspeed legend out there. If anyone comes up with a picture or car number I would appreciate it being posted here. Thanks.

Gil's roadster is one beautiful roadster been many years since I've seen it but it was red maybe candy apple.

Gil Ruiz has been part owner and owner builder with several different record setting  Santa Barbara LSR cars and member of Bville 200 mph club.

An old friend but lost touch. Sorry about his condition didn't know.

A quick web search shows a feature in Hot Rod, August 1983 & one in Street Rodder, August 1985 including the cover:

Things started on time this AM, Sunday, but there has been an incident early and we are on  hold.  They are moving the course over.  I didn't hear what car it was but the driver was Brian Gilespie.  They haven't given word on his condition but it has been a while and we are not hearing any helicopter so maybe it just made a mess of the track and the ambulance guys handled it.  Will post if I hear more.

Update    It was the Hondata / Hasport Performance car.  That car got a driver in the El Mirage Two Club yesterday !  Latest word is he was flown out but appears to be in good shape,,,,all fingers and toes working, conscious and knows what happened.  Cut on leg...going for observation but in good shape.

Dean,

After looking at your pictures I am sure we were standing next to each other when Gil's Roadster was running. Sorry I did not introduce myself.

This is what Gil saw when he arrived at the car, he had no idea what was under the cover.
