Does anyone want to handicap the percentages as to the chances of running 400 MPH the year for each of the motorcycles? 0 - 100 Percent
I don't think any of the motorcycle streamliners will break the 400mph record this year. But if the conditions clear, possibly a one-way 400mph run? Sentimental favorite is Sam Wheeler given his time/legacy on the salt but he has essentially a new streamliner from the firewall back to test and sort out. I know the weight has increased quite a bit and the weight distribution has changed with the new engine, gearbox, coolant tank, etc. Anyone have specifics on his actual status? (hopefully this Winter when I'm in Los Angeles I can make a visit of him again to learn more and to bounce questions off to tap his knowledge base -- truly a nice guy with a passion for motorcycle streamliners)
If the salt is really good we will see 400 from maybe 2 liners.....that is my fearless prediction!!
Sam's liner changes are awesome. Take a look at the videos here on this site. Sam is not sure how much the weight has increased by......but I think we are talking 30 to 50 lbs. and the machine weighs something like 1200 to 1300 to start. Only the center section is new with a Vance & Hines built Hayabusa putting out 500 to 600 HP. The frame now goes over and under the engine and is exotic machined aluminum. The rear suspension and belt drive and trans are really exotic.
I will try to post some photos.
The rear section is the same.
New Goodyear tire is supposed to be good for 450 and he is using his proven front wheel and suspension.
So we have a proven liner with many sensible upgrades.
Sam is being very quiet, but testing is underway and he will be ready for Cook meet. Lets hope the salt is good!
