I just put this on the WoS thread, but will repeat it here:

I just talked with Mike Cook about the Shootout - and the WoS cancellation.  Cook leaves SoCal this Sunday to get to Wendover that day, and by Monday will have looked at the salt enough to make a decision about whether he should postpone or cancel -- or run.  Stay tuned -- he'll call me with updates when he's got 'em.

Hey, Jon:

Howze about starting a new thread dedicated to this year's Shootout?

With the cancellation of WoS, the Salt Junkies will be concentrating on that now.

That's a fine idea.  I was just looking around to find a FIRM start date for the Shootout -- and couldn't even find a Shootout 2013 topic.

When I say "firm" date -- I've seen both the 11th and the 12th.  Sometimes I get the impression that Wednesday the 11rd is for set up and  inspection, sometimes not.  Who knows for sure?  I've gotta reschedule an airline ticket and don't want to miss any of the fun.

I saw that on the website, too -- but dang it, I am pretty sure that I saw the 11st as a "pit set-up and safety inspection" day - - somewhere.  Since I've got to close the store and fly out there I want to get there sort of "just in time" rather than spend an extra day away from work - and away from Nancy.

Last I heard  they were able to get a seven day permit from the 12th through the 18th.   These coincide with the dates on my FIA application, BTW.
So we got a week of weather to consider.
Hope to see some/all of you on the salt.

Does anyone want to handicap the percentages as to the chances of running 400 MPH the year for each of the motorcycles? 0 - 100 Percent

I don't think any of the motorcycle streamliners will break the 400mph record this year.  But if the conditions clear, possibly a one-way 400mph run?  Sentimental favorite is Sam Wheeler given his time/legacy on the salt but he has essentially a new streamliner from the firewall back to test and sort out.  I know the weight has increased quite a bit and the weight distribution has changed with the new engine, gearbox, coolant tank, etc.  Anyone have specifics on his actual status?  (hopefully this Winter when I'm in Los Angeles I can make a visit of him again to learn more and to bounce questions off to tap his knowledge base -- truly a nice guy with a passion for motorcycle streamliners)

If the salt is really good we will see 400 from maybe 2 liners.....that is my fearless prediction!! :-D

Sam's liner changes are awesome.  Take a look at the videos here on this site.  Sam is not sure how much the weight has increased by......but I think we are talking 30 to 50 lbs. and the machine weighs something like 1200 to 1300 to start.  Only the center section is new with a Vance & Hines built Hayabusa putting out 500 to 600 HP.  The frame now goes over and under the engine and is exotic machined aluminum.  The rear suspension and belt drive and trans are really exotic.

I will try to post some photos.

The rear section is the same.

New Goodyear tire is supposed to be good for 450 and he is using his proven front wheel and suspension.

So we have a proven liner with many sensible upgrades.

Sam is being very quiet, but testing is underway and he will be ready for Cook meet.  Lets hope the salt is good!

Here is some information on a streamliner I never have seen.  Is this thing for real and is it set for a Bub appearance, or is Castrol going to spring for the bucks to run?   Nice looking vehicle, the faster the number, the more sophisticated these liners get. Verrrry interesting.
Has anyone seen this before?

Hope the salt drys out soon!

uh..yeah...:)...

they were at BUB...a few weeks ago...

the went around 90+ mph, had a fire...and I think most would expect some
teething issues...not sure how or what transpired...

they announced they wouldnt be ready to continue running at the Shootout....

Matt Guzetta!!!  I know that name from a long time ago.

The Triumph is beautiful, but I think it need more development time.  Honda and others found out it is not that easy.

See post #53! You can't be in a hurry to go fast!  :-o

If all politicians had to run successfully on the salt before running for office we would have a much better bunch in DC!!
