Well as you know, it's a big project for us to fire up enough sponsors to get the Flower back to the Salt each year... BUT with some generous support from EFG International it looks like we're close enough to be able to push the "GO" button for 2013.
Not deffo yet, but as close as it ever is at this stage of the year.
Can't wait to see you all back there... a year without Salt is a year wasted.

Cheers

PS Phil... show your lad www.speed-scotland.com and make sure you come spend some time with us on the Salt. (Better yet, search out the BBC Speed Dreams show on You Tube, part II where I don't come over as a c*ck though, not part I!) ;-)

We're going to Bonneville/Speedweek this year for the first time and really looking forward to it...so have a couple of questions.  We can only make one of the two weekends for three days, so which is the better one to catch - the first weekend or the second?  Is there racing on the second Sunday or is it finished Saturday?  What are the entry fees like and are they daily or weekly?  Any suggestions for a first-timer?

Sorry for the thread drift, new to the forum and couldn't figure out how to start a new thread.   Thanks alot!

Okay, let's make sure our terms are straight.

Speedweek runs August 10-August 16.  Usually by the Tuesday or Wednesday of the week, half of the tents are folded, 2/3 of the crowd is gone, and those left behind are the hardcore or those waiting for the next day to do back-up runs.

If you don't already have a hotel room for the 10th, you're likely out of luck.

World of Speed in September, or World Finals in October, on the other hand, will still have rooms availble, will be a bit slower paced and likely be a better first-time experience in that the weather is cooler, it's not overcrowded, and the rooms will be a lot cheaper.

If you show up on the 16th of August, you'll be waving so-long to the last of the racers.

I'm glad to hear you're there as it's thanks to the BBC documentary that we're going.  Leo (wife/gaffer/all round hero) was touched by the story of Team Page and suggested on including Bonneville in a holiday.  A suggestion was all I needed to get flights booked.  I'd already checked out your website and shown Lennie some of your runs from the programme.  The excitement of just being there to view is building in our house already, god knows how you lot involved with crews or actually driving must feel.

To be honest I spend 6 months trying to minimize my anticipation as every year it looks like we won't make it until the last minute!
But NOW I can start to get excited... and it gets to a daft extent in the final month.
Phil please make sure u come and make yourselves at home with us.
And to the other chap asking you need to be there first weekend. But you may need to assume you'll be commuting in from SLC...
98 days.... not counting. .. honest.

We certainly will, thanks so much for the offer.  We won't be arriving until about 5/6pm on the Saturday so will there be much activity at this time or should we just get on the salt early for the record runs at dawn.  One question I have, is there any sort of run order in advance?  By that, I mean lets say we are on the salt at the 4 mile marker, how would I know when you may be making a run?  Or do we rely on the radio to pre-warn me to get the camera and video switched on.

Radio. Staging lanes are first come first serve. I would go out a bit that first night. It will at least give you the layout and the Tshirt lines should be shorter by then.

Its run in order people show up at the start so u need to listen to the radio... we can spend 2hrs plus in the line so not like u can guess because u saw us going down to the line. Secret is set up some shade, open the drinks cooler, stick the radio on and chill into the event.
Arrive Sat night 6pm u want to head directly to the casinos for the hotrod show. Then be on the Salt for dawn for the record runs!!!

If you want to video someone in particular, you need to find out -- from them -- which course, of four, they're running on.

Course #1, a long course, is the only one you can photograph from the starting line on past the pits..  There is not access except for the starting line for spectators on the other three.

You'll get a map of the layout when you get on the salt.

That's good to hear.  I thought the only viewing would be the pits and the long run nearest the pits.  I didn't think that joe public would be able to get near the start line.

Be prepared. There may not be a CB feed this year.

At the 2012 world finals the BNI decided not to announce the times on the CB. They used a FM station you had to listen to and the two guys talked about a lot of non racing crap. This coming year would have been my 30 th year in the timing venue but they decided they didn't need me at the world finals. I still don't understand the reasoning behind the not using the CB so the racers and crews know what is going on. I can only hope they wake up and bring it back.
