:-D Hi all,

Well, I'm back this year, all booked up, but I don't think I'll go anywhere near 400mph...

But the bike will...anyway...of sorts...since it's being air freighted

Just hope I'll manage more than one run in a week... That was a poor record in 2011  8-)

Patrick

Patrick,
It was a pleasure to meet you in 2011 and I hope to see you again this year.

Don

Thanks Don, same here...

1st year is always a bit of hit and miss really... Done quite well in 2011 considering the task and hurdles  :-D

This year, 2 brothers from the USA, a mate of mine, Richard, where I live and one of his friends in Australia, Graham, (he posts here sometimes...) will join me...

Very international crew indeed I hear you say!!!

See you all soon, I can't wait!!! Patrick

Will the Norton experiment be ready

Patrick

Right now its marginal.  The new sidecar has turned from simple into a marathon.  I'm hoping to have it ready for May.  Then try and get the Norton built.

This in response to Tricky Dickys comment about no car going over 400 the first year out. The Summers Brothers car made only eleven runs and did 425 mph on the last run...all in one month, November 1965!
I enjoyed being on the salt then, along with Terry Nish.

On vacation today on west I-80. Lands end was dry, white and flat. It really looked good. No ridges and just a couple of puddles at the bottom of the boat ramp. Looks like there was more salt between bend in the road and lands end. No water could be seen but that doesn't mean there wasn't any water 3 or 4 miles out. Lets race. August to to far out. Let's have have a pre meet in june or july. Does anyone remember those?

That is a very good point.  I have tried to track down more information about Goldenrod's time on the salt - found lots about the design and build of the car, the record itself, the recent restoration for museum display, and even the visit to Goodwood in England, but very little about the runs.  Is there a comprehensive and accurate account published somewhere (book, magazine, internet ...)?

October/November 1965 must have been a very exciting time, with Bob Herda and the Summers brothers setting wheel-driven records and Bobby Tatroe, Art Arfons and Craig Breedlove doing amazing things with jets.  409.277 and 600.601 are two numbers that say such a lot.

Some of the best Bonneville coverage in this time frame was Hot Rod Magazine. I don't have the issues in front of me (they are at home) but I am sure you can find some to buy on Ebay and such. I wish HRM would do as good these days as back then when the coverage was in depth and muliple pages of text and pictures.
