We are close to ready. Had the bike on the dyno Saturday. Got it tuned and electrical gremlins fixed. Had to put a new wiring harness on it. Five years on the salt finally got it.

Five years?  Jeez, Fred -- our brand-new pit bike didn't get past its first winter following a year on the salt.  Last October I washed it, lubed it, cleaned it, washed and lubed and cleaned and dried it -- and this year the chain has magically turned from a flexible power transmission device to a bit of solid rust-colored art.  As for wiring - HAH!  Good thing it doesn't have much.

I guess that'll teach me what to expect when buying a pit bike -- but it's what I expected, what with buying a $300 Chinese Briggs & Stratton knock-off.  I thought I'd get more than one year out of it, though. . .

Five years?  Not bad.  See you on the salt.

I had the same problem with the chain on my peddle power bicycle the first year I went out there with it.
Solved the problem by switching to a nickle plated bicycle chain.

The plain blue steel chains have about as much resistance to salt rusting as I have for eating chocolate cake.

Best method for keeping your chain from year to year:

1. After the event immediately remove the chain.
2. Put chain in a pot of water, bring to a boil. As soon as the water boils, change the water, do the water change/boil 3 times.
3. Remove chain from the water and cool.
4. With compressed air blow all of the water out of the chain; pay close attention to the rollers
5. Let chain sit in dry area for 2-3 days. This will insure all water has evaporated.
6. Put chain in a coffee can and fill with ATF (new or old).
7. Put a lid on coffee can and store on a shelf.
8. A few weeks before the event, pull the chain out of the oil and wipe clean with towels.
9. After the chain is 100% clean, throw chain in garbage.
10. Install a brand new chain.

This method is fool proof and will guarantee your chain will be ready to go every year!

The motor went on the dyno tonight to get a good warm up. Tomorrow will be power/tune pulls. It runs really smooth for a 250cid Rat motor. E/PP this year. Dan, sharpen your protractor and have Jim Miller calibrate the pump 'cause the rat returns!
Of course, we may be sleeping in the Montego parking lot, but whatever... (anybody got spare rooms?)

I was surprised and sad to here about the Maro Special.  The car is such a beautiful and well designed piece, I thought it might all come together this year. I guess we will never know, at least for now.  If somebody has the money (probably a lot of money) and a motor it would be a great car. If someone has the money I have a 318 plymouth with about 125 horsepower.

From what I heard last night, that red truck is going to have fun this SW.
