Hello all...

I have been lurking here and on ethe LSR Yahoo groups for a longwhile, I thought I'd finally say hello.

I'm Bow (Like Bow and Arrow) and I am in Houston, TX.

I Have an interest in LSR, but very little time to chase that dream as I am busy chasing that Bacholers Degree.

I have an interest in 4 cylinders that is fueled by the fact that I have a spare in my garage awaiting a rebuild.

You all look like a great bunch of folks, it is good to see that on an internet forum every now and then... ;)

I hope you all don't mind a Lurker.

Cheers,

Bow

Thanks to everyone in the chat last night,
It was fun, educational and a bit mind numbing.

Thanks for the warm welcome

RichFox, Landracing, Harv and Sum.. Thanks for the information and putting up with my relentless questions. ;)

Hey DW,

Actually, it is the Majordomo email list, not a Yahoo group, I was mistaken.

land-speed@autox.team.net

That one.

Sorry

Thanks Ed!

I have a '91 Nissan 2.4L DOHC (KA24DE out of my 240SX) that I am constructing a set of Individual throttle Bodies to hang off the side.

I figured I should do something with it... ;)

I just need to figure out what to put it in...  :?

How about a 240SX?  You could do worse for aerodynamics.  2.4L is a big handicap for "F" motors that can go up to 3.0L. But there is nothing wrong with that as a starting point if you already know that motor well.

I'm thinking you're a little constrained as far as car building knowledge and resources are concerned.  Keep it as simple as you can.  Your biggest effort would likely be coming up with roll cage for whatever car you pick.  But before you do anything buy a current SCTA rule book and get to know it real well.

You've got the Texas mile nearby.  I don't know much about how close their events stick to SCTA classification and protocols.  But if you rigorously follow the SCTA book you can't go wrong.

Some comments about used drag race cars:  You can often get them pretty cheap less engine and trans.  But note:
1. SCTA cage requirements are a lot stricter than NHRA.
2. "Tubbed" body work to clear wide slicks essentially ruins a body for any reasonable SCTA class like production, coupe/sedan or GT.
3. Do your homework before you invest in tires.
4. Don't spend real money on safety equipment until the year you plan to race.  A lot of items are date sensitive.

Consider volunteering and investing some of your own time and resources in helping out another landspeed racer at the events.  What you learn about the sport, especially the meet protocols and the general culture will be invaluable in preparing your own race effort.

Thanks Ed,

yes, I considered the 240 that I have, but I like it as my street-able toy car, and with the Emissions laws the Houston has (Think California) I have a hard time getting it through every year, and it is pretty stock.

Besides the fact it is 2900 pounds in street form and 155 hp. it is fun, it is "Quick", but the top end isn't all that great; but yes, it is a aerodynamic, slippery little sucker.

I'd like to get a lighter "airframe" to stick this motor in.

Right Now, the engine needs a total rebuild, as it is stripped to the block, but I have all the parts.

My biggest catch: I need time, between full time work and full time night school Chasing the Bachelor's degree I should have got years ago, my non-existing free time is usually sucked up by the "Honey-do" list. LOL

I would love to assist another racer, but as far as I know, there isn't any LSR'ers in the Houston Area.

I have a 2004 Rulebook, I should probably get the latest and the greatest.

Thanks.
