Newbie on board
« on: May 14, 2006, 07:00:48 PM »
I just found this site by accident, so I joined.
I met Tom Bruch through some wheeling and dealing about 5yrs ago. Somehow he talked me into coming to Maxton, so we could meet face to face, and I could check out this LSR. Next thing I know, I'm towing my car down to take a stab at the I/PS record.
I ended up with the record, and now I'm hooked.
I am in the stages of trying to gather parts to put together a 750cc motor for another Suzuki chassis, and head back down for some more fun.
Just thought I'd introduce myself. Hopefully I can learn a bit about LSR while I'm here. :D

Welcome, do you have any pictures of the car and I'm guessing it has a one liter motor (I) class.  Does Suzuki have any 750 cc cars or are you going to adapt a bike motor to one.

Not sure how to post pics here, but its the car in my avatar.
Its a 993cc factory turbo, built by Suzuki, called a Firefly turbo in Canada. Its a close relative to the Geo Metro.
I like the small stuff. Its cheap, not too fast, rugged, and fun.
I ran 115.9MPH in the mile, and the car does 14.8 in the quarter on the stock turbo, at low boost. Although Suzuki builds a number of 660cc 4v/cyl, factory turbo cars, those motors are note easy to get here in Canada.
I plan to use the pistons/rods from an H10, from an early Samurai, and the 3cyl. block, with some crank work.

Running 14's with a 993cc is pretty darn good and so is the 116 mph :!: .

I found this site thanks to your post:

Never knew Suzuki had so many small turbo motors.  Since they were designed as turbo motors I would think they have a pretty good lower end.  How do they stand up to higher boost levels (say 15 to 30#)?

A few were setup for rear wheel drive.  They might make good motors for a lakester or streamline.  Are any of the turbo motors available in cars in the US?

c ya and good luck with your project,

Sum

Only the 87-88 turbo 3cyl. cars were available in the US.
The motors take boost well. They are very well built. I've run 25psi on my street cars for years, without any problems.
Nice link. The Mode Cervo is my fave, but the Cap is pretty cool. Its about 3/4 the size of a Miata, with  the 660cc DOHC turbo motor.
