does SCTA charge for the event itself?

No charge from SCTA, but be sure to budget money for the SCTA sales trailer.
You do need a hat and a t-shirt, don't you?
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.

The BLM has a day pass charge. I don't know the cost, maybe someone can chime in here.

Hoping you can get some runs in today, although tomorrow's forecast looks a lot less windy.  Thank goodness for 2-day events.

The wind mustn't be too bad at times as I saw Rick Yacoucci post today this on his FB page "We just ran 258 mph on a 240 mph record also fastest car of the year at el mirage"  I just wish I had made it over there this weekend as I had planned, that woulda been cool to see. Guess Ill have to wait till May to get my first intro to the dirt

Frankie my first trip was a religious experience.

It's where all of this LSR stuff developed.
