An orange traffic cone can be worn on the head in place of the tinfoil hat if needed.   Horst proved this works at Bubs:

Doug Grieve just qualified his 9991 Salt Cat with a 224 1/4 or so.

Curt Carlson, #3642 next.  No announcer information - I'll have to watch closely and try to let you know about the vehicle.

Mark DeLuca just ran a 221 to qualify the 3182 bike on a 214 record.

Jon Minnono on Bike 1161 now on course.  He's already got the record around 225+.  He runs an S&S turbo motor.  224.772 in the middle mile, and last mile speed is 223.457.  I heard some wheelspin in the first mile -- maybe he found some slick spots farther down the course.  Didn't qualify.

Sam Buck in the #53 Creel and Buck car, being pushed for the first mile and a half.  No coolant -- so they don't light it 'til the 1 1/2.  131 in the quarter, 133.325 first mile.  Open record -- take it to impound.  No announcement on what class they ran it, though.

I vote we retire "take it to impound" to honor Glen. Any thoughts on a replacement quote?
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

I think it would be tough to retire the quote because it's burned so deeply in everyone's minds. On the other hand I don't think anyone but Glen will ever own the phrase simply because no matter who says it we all hear it with the same voice .................... Glen's.

I think it is even more of a tribute that everyone says it.  To retire it would eventually cause it to fade into memory.

Max - I have a nice stainless steel salad bowl that would  make a more comfortable hat then tin foil.

Well, maybe it's not me that's making the audio work.  For the last half hour I've had to fight with the old Alltel/Verizon aircard just to get this laptop on the air.  The salt gremlins must be wearing their tinfoil outfits.

I'm back now, though.

So - the word around the pits is that the course isn't bad -- but it sure isn't great.  Let's see -- I told you about listening to Jon Minnono spin up the wheel as he made his pass, and Mark Brakel (sp?) was 20 or 30 mph off the mark when he went down the course on his bike.  Okay, and the cars -- they've been on the slow side, too.

The Carter Family Flyer Corvette is on the course now -- #7272.  I'll give you some speeds.  1/4 mile 206.848 and shut it off, 184 in the mile.

That doesn't tell us uch about the course, does it?

The Carters always make a 3 mile check out run which is smart. Now they can work on the tune up. :-D

I just talked with Jon Minnono as he walked past our pit. Indeed, he did have some wheelspin issues, mostly from the course.  But he hurt the tire, too - was using the same tire that he dynoed the bike on.  He ran a 223 and says he'll wait for later - maybe the course will dry up and get better.

We need a recorded Glen voice with the saying "TAKE IT To  IMPOUND", and its us could be by the press of a button when needed. That would make it official!  :-D

I told Glen he needs to make that his voicemail greeting! We could just call his number when we need a fix!

Back to WoS stuff.  Ray Therat called to say he had made it through inspection and was in line for his 130 club run.  He's fired up - looking forward to making his first run.  He asked me to let you folks know that he'll be thinking of you when he makes that first pass.  And - he said that he'll first of all be thinking of his driveshaft

It's a bit past 3PM out here and we're about to shut down the stuff at the pit and move to the site of Salt Talks II - the new museum parking area.  If there's any time I'll make a post or two before then - but otherwise -- C U tomorrow.

Less mud for sure, this is also good for Wendover to see that racers really do support the town both sides of the state line.
