Bummer.  Jonny Hotnuts just left the line -- and turned out (to the "okay" side) at the 2 mile.  A few cars before him Steve Walters in the 429 Torino left the line and lost one cylinder every few hundred feet -- 'til he turned out at about the half.

Nasty dark clouds over town right now - still bright here at the line.

Glen, I'm running short on people home on a Sunday and available.  May I have a few more moments of your time for a bit of live interview, then, we have a conference call coming up for a foundation board meeting so, a few more minutes of your time and I'll put today's show to bed.

Perhaps we can talk about the Vesco team you work with now?

Kris Wright is leaving the line in the 667 Firecracker G/FS now.  It's got a pair of 1000 cc Suzuki engines, and the front wheels are side-by-each with the rears in line.  The car has taken a few years to get de-bugged, having been upside down once and many times with shifting both engines simultaneously.

On course at the 1 1/2, first quarter speed 177.287, mile speed 189.198 (there's still headwind out there, folks), 214.615 middle mile, last mile -- no last mile -- flat spin.

Those clouds are getting darker and closer and there's lightning leaking out of them and whoa, doggies, it doesn't look very promising.  Interestingly -- the wind is blowing towards town from here at the start line -- yet the clouds, which are towards town from here -- are moving to us.  Hunh?  The radar shows that it's starting to rain on the west side of the hill behind W. Wendover.  Nothing here - yet.  Let's hope it stays that way, okay?

We're on a course hold while they get Kris Wright's car off the course.  No word on the spin -- was it something broken or what. . .

That was great getting Glens insight on the vesco team.  Even better you got a recording of "take it to impound"  I would pay to get that as a ringtone for my phone.  (to benefit the website of course)  Thanks Max

After the spinout we hung around at the start line - where nothing was going on because of the incident.  Around 4 or so we decided to head back to the pits, and on the way north we met the exiting ambulance - lights flashing - as it went towards Land's End.  No word on the passenger, although it was most likely Kris Wright.  I have no further information - as is standard policy. Check with USFRA and www.saltflats.com - maybe they'll release something.

At about 4.45 the rain started.  We had just finished closing the pit trailer and got in the truck as the weather turned from drips and drops to sprinkles to rain.  As we drove on out the rain came in squalls of heavy for a minute and then not much, then some, then heavy, and so on.  We drove down to the freeway end of the international course and back -- still those now-and-then squalls.  Not a lot of rain on the surface anyplace, but enough new water to show a few tire tracks as we drove.  Everyone, just about, must have decided to leave the salt at the same time -- there was quite a bit of traffic heading to Land's End.  More than a few vehicles were pulling race trailers.  And there were lots of race vehicles being pulled from the start line back to the pits.  You decide what it means - and I'll get more information to you as soon as I can.

It rained some as we were on the paved road, and by the time we got to the Motel Sux the rain had stopped and the sky is clearing.  It's still cloudy - but not raining and pretty bright out there.  Temp. is in the lower 70s.  And when Nancy awakens from her nap we'll head to W. Wendover for a dose of good cosine (the local version of fine cuisine).

Angling for a meal?

Please keep us posted on Kris.  Thanks for the reports, and kudos on the cool interview with Nancy this afternoon.

She's glad, she just now reports, that at least somebody was listening.

As for a fine meal, I'll tell you in a not-so-public forum about one of the ways I secure food here.  Got your interest piqued, haven't I? 8-)

I've not found a decent dumpster to dive into on either side of the state line.
