As a modified Ford Thunderbird it must have been special to get under 1099 lbs or 500kg. That was some diet it went on before the batteries were added back. (Do I sound sceptical ...?). Was the body paper thin or the batteries super light weight.
I watched a UK built Class 1 electric streamliner achieve 107 mph on a two mile runway - our usual space over here - under MSA and FIA rules. The vehicle 'Volta' had been asembled by five 16 year old pupils at a school (with some professional guidance). Seek back copies of 'Fast Facts' for details - the year was 1993.
