Joe, that's great news!

Since two of our team members live in Columbus, OH, I'll now be joining the ECTA!
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead. -- RFC 1925

You can't make a race horse out of a pig. But if you work hard enough at it you can make a mighty fast pig. - Bob Akin

Joe that is great news, this is a great location with plenty of local businesses ready to support the events. I will be happy to try to answer any questions that anyone has regarding the Wilmington area. See you at Maxton.

Bruce, you've been to Maxton, right?  You probably know something of what many of the ECTA racers want in the way of lodging and eating, then.  The Pine Acres Motel is more of a glorified Mom and Pop place - than, for instance, one of the chains.  It's where a whole bunch of the ECTA racers stay.  Is there anyplace like that in Wilmington or the nearby area?  The same for food - Jerry's Barbecue is a short walk from the Pine Acres, and there's the Greek place for pizza (yeah, I know -- go figure), and a Golden Coral and a family seafood place.  Anything like that in the greater Wilmington metropolis?

That's the kind of information that we want to know.  A Comfort Suites or Marriott might be nice -- but pricey, too.  Ditto for fancy name-brand restaurants.  Ruth's Chris's Steak House serves tasty food, one would hope -- but I can fill up on a $10 meal and enjoy it about as much as I could for the basic same meal costing $45.

Right you are Slim ... what would a trip to Maxton be without "Max's Breakfast Anytime" Restaurant?

Chill dudes! Be cool!  8-)

I will be hooking up with Bruce Harmon at Maxton - my backyard backs up to his backyard which is Wilmington!  :-o

We will work on a hotels, dining, parts places, etc., etc., etc. later! But keep the requests coming so we can compile them all!

Wifey and I took a walk-about last Saturday - lots of possibilities!

In Wilmington there are 4-5 chain motels and the Wilmington Inn it is localy owned and in a good location, 2 miles from the track and it is a clean well managed place. Thier business has been squeezed by the chain motels and they might be receptive to a special deal for racers? Joe and Keith may have already worked on this? If not I will see what I can negotiate. There is no need to rent a room outside of Wilmington there are plenty available close to the track and currently they have no business. Plenty of places to eat, some chain resturants but the localy owned would be McD's Pub (pub food), Eldorado Mexican ($3.50 for a 32oz. draft beer), Mediteranian (pasta and pizza) and General Denver (steak and seafood). General Denver is also a hotel, a little pricey but historic (old). As I come up with any better info I will post it, keep the questions coming and I will answer them.

In the next couple of months, we will have all of the hotels and restaurants listed on the website. Wilmington has a vintage movie theater. A beautifully restored hotel downtown has a tavern on one side and fine dining on the other. There are a number of good restaurants and fast food all around town. They have all the major auto part stores within one mile or two of the airpark. From the center of town to the airpark can't be more than three miles. We are sure all of you will really enjoy the new location!!!

Not too important anymore, but someone mentioned Mac's Breakfast Anytime.  Gone, Kaput, No Longer in Existence.  Nope, you can't eat there.  I wonder where all those fine Southern waitresses went (let me fill that for ya, Darlin').  No idea what happened but I took some newbies there for breakfast last meet and it was history.

Great news and updates on the facilities nearby.  I would be curious to know about any storage facilities right on the airport property.  I plan to check out the campground near the lake southeast of there but it would be sweet to keep the camper right at the facility instead.  I will probably take a scouting trip this fall sometime though.

I noticed this year that the Loring meet would have been the week after the new July date but I suppose I should jump over to that forum before jumping to any conclusions for 2012.  I suppose some might like to make it a long vacation and hit both over a two week period but that leaves little time for adjustments.
