Number plate Location on Small Bikes

Not sure how to comply with the following rule set (bolded) for our small bike.

Motorcycle number and class identification on both sides of the motorcycle are required for each participant. Numbers shall be reserved with organizer. The number class shall be displayed within a flat, smooth, vertical surface with a minimum dimension of 7.5 in high and 10.5 in wide, with a maximum of 8.5in by 11in. Motorcycle numbers must be a minimum of 3 in high and 1 in wide. Class designation shall be a min of 1in high. Numbers/letters shall not be shaded or outlined. The surface may be on the motorcycle, or number plates may be used. Where used, number plates shall have 1in radius corners, be securely mounted, meet the dimensions and be located ahead of a vertical line through the rear axle. Numbers shall be in full view and not blocked by the rider when in the riding position.

Does "located ahead of a vertical line through the rear axle" mean the entire plate, or the center of the plate? This bike is so small that locating the plate forward of the axle makes it hidden by the rider's leg. The plate shown in the photo below is a 6x9" oval. Will be replaced with 7.5"x10.5" but we are concerned about the location. Even getting the center of the plate forward of the axle puts most of it under the rider's leg. Sorry about the crummy angle of the photo but it's all I have.

Jim, if you use a number plate the rear edge must be forward of the rear axle.  The numbers could be on the tail section as well.  The numbers could be located anywhere on the plate so they are readable

May I suggest that if the number plate is partially covered by the rider's leg is of no concern. The starter calls the number to the timing tower prior to the bike leaving the starting line. Do you really think that the timers, who are several hundred yards from the course, can read a 3" number with accuracy? I believe the procedure is done by all groups using the raceway.

Scooter takes you picture and files it by bike number.  It helps him if he can read it.

It is tricky to get the FIM class designation into a small area with 1 inch numbers.

Are there any other Addendums to the AMA rulebook that entries need to know about before showing up at tech in a few days?

Yes, good thought, I wish I thought to ask that of that when AHG posted # plate rule. Hope it was the only one. AMA rules I don't see any addendums
