130 MPH club
« on: May 09, 2010, 08:15:22 PM »
Just found a link to this info.  Is this for real?  Yep, IM a newbe/spec"tater".  However, my drag race Camaro would fit this class with just a few mods and I can be a Bonnieville racer!  How fast can I run before major safety equipment is required?  My Camaro is NHRA legal to 10:90.   :?

Howdy Oldrodder.  You say you just found a link to this info -- but I see you've got a few dozen posts already made -- so I want to ask -- just to what info do you refer?  If it's to landracing.com -- where'd you find the link?  I try to get a link to here on just about every site I know of and think would be proper for us -- so I am curious to find out what place featured us on the links page.

Milwakie Midget made mention of the 130 club on this site.  I have since found more info right here.  Great website, plug/plug.  I am retired and just can't justify the expense of a 200 mph car but my old drag car could be converted to a salt racer and I could treat my "salt fever" for a reasonable amount.  Looking forward to Speed Week and Salt Talks this year as a spectator with my wife and son.  Maybe a racer next year?
How the heck do you spell Milwalki anyhow????????  John

John you can go to speedweek and spectate... and then to WoS and run your old dragster,  You didn't mention what is has for safety now and lots of us don't know what a 1090 car is...  :|
If you have a cage that meets the 150 club... 4 point, then you can run 159.9, no cage, no problem.  Look at the rules like Mike said and run 139 in the 130 club for very little money.
Stop and say hi at speed week, bring your son by for a picture in the car.

The 130 and 150 club class is run only at the September World of Speed event, not at the August SCTA event. Last year there was a fellow who wanted to run the 150, they made him run the 130 and told him to return this year for the 150.
Read the rules well, buy the correct tires, and have fun. Its the lowest level of salt racing, and its more fun than a geezer should be allowed. I'll  be there in a 55 Ford again, with a 54 year old motor that has to be driven 1650 miles to get there, in race trim.

Thanks Stainless for the invite for my son!  I will see you at speed week and may even buy you an adult beverage.  By the way, my son is 42 years old and weighs 300+ lbs.  Maybe take a picture beside your car?
My Camaro has a 8 pt. cage, in the trunk fuel cell, no lines in the passenger compartment, 9/16 wheel studs, 5 pt. harness and so on.  I think that just buying new tires and maybe wheels should meet safety specs.  Most likely should change the 410 gears too.  John

Last year my buddy in Santa Rosa, California read a story in the Press Democrat about a local racer. the article mentioned the 130 club. He emailed me, and after several seraches and links, I found the forum.

The 130 runs in Sept only so you have extended your prep time .

He will be OK to get in the streamliner at speedweek, it will accommodate large kids....
Now the lakester at WoS is a little different story...

Sounds like you could run 150 club if you wanted to...
