New to site and first bike build

Hello all

My name is Michael and i live in Tehchapi CA. I have decided to build a LSR bike useing parts from my 1982 Honda Ascot (500cc single cyl) The first thing I did was cut apart a spare frame. I used the back portion of the swing arm and a portion of the rear motor mounts and the steering neck. I stretched the back end 4 inches over stock and raked the front end to 40deg. The bike sits about 3 inches off the ground. I still have gussets and cross members that I would like to add to the bike but here are a few shots of what it looks like so far.






So this is my first ever attemept at a motorcycle. I am a Welder/Fabricator by trade. I will post more pics as i progress further with the build. Thanks

I'm jealous!  You're going to be able to test ride through the first couple gears without even going outdoors!  Me....I'll have to dodge the Long Beach PD.

It does look like a fun project.  Keep the pics coming.

JIMI -I've dodged the LBPD a few times -that's why I live in the INLAND EMPIRE now -gunshots nitely not withstanding.

 :-DCool but you will have to put some real good gussets in,I dont want to tell you how to suck eggs but just from the photos I can spot two fracture points the first is at the front down tubes as they meet the bottom rails and at the rear where the rear wheel brace tubes meet the cradle, should be fine with good gussets dont skimp though and tell me where to go if you feel so inclined, I just dont like people hurtin themselves.Nice riding position though good luck with the build, when are you looking to race?

Those are the places i have already made gussets for I have just not installed them yet. I also have some more cross tubes to put in. Thanks for your input though. I would rather someone tell me that instead of not saying anything then I end up with a tube sticking im my leg or worse. I hope to get some stuff done to it this weekend so I will try to post more pics.

Looking good........but with the 40 deg. rake you will need the 15 degree fork stops.............

(is it still 15 deg., Right??)

Indeed!  It is usually a slow process, so give the junkies a hit of the gussets getting welded, the frame getting wire brushed, you petting the cat...anything...LOL   Looks like a great project!
