Turbinator

It looks like it could do a lot more than 458 mph.  I wonder if Rick will ever run it again?

There are intentions on running the Turbinator again. The goal was 500 mph and beyond. Stuff is already in the works.

There has not been a driver selected yet, nor has the process been started for selecting one. I hear the goal to run the car would be 2009, But alot has to happen from now till then.

Rick is a very motivated guy to get the job done. Hopefully we can air a video Rick had put together about the project in the near future.

I think he should put Jinx, his wife, in the Turbinator.. She would have a ball...

The car has been lengthened 18" since it set the record.  Rick wouldn't have done that unless Don had some concerns about handling.  I don't know more than that but Glen will be the first to know anything new, he's on the crew.

It was more to do with improving the air intake for higher speeds than concerns about handling.

I once talked to Don about this.  Stretching the frame 18" was done to give more room in front of the intake of the engine in order to design and build a better intake.  He said that at 450 mph it was trying to tear the top half of the body off.  At that time he hadn't figured out what he was going to do about that problem.   One other thing that he was working on was a water injection system for the engine for more horsepower.  The small intake system was only allowing about 75% horsepower.  He had some rear shock problems, causing a blowout of a tire, but he found a fellow nearby that made him up some shocks that he felt would work.

I heard that the  air intake was causing major problems with the turbine temps
