Another new guy with lots of questions
« on: November 06, 2007, 09:06:31 AM »
So I want to go LSR with my car and have a few intial questions-

I have a 1985 Chevrolet Camaro with a 305 TPI, 60 over on the rebuild.  It is a supercharged car as well. Not running anything beyond an unleaded 101 octane gas. Want to run a street class. What would my designation be and what is the current record holder?

Will Hot Rod magazine have another event in 2008?

I live in the Wilmington area.  Are there any other street class car guys in this area?

Thanks for you time guys!

Which Wilmington do you live in?  If it's Wilmington, NC - that's where I live.  Drop me a PM and we'll hook up.

As far as the Top Speed Shootout - definitely on for next year - see <ecta-lsr.com> for details and the TSS classes.  Hot Rod has their own limited class structure, aimed at finding the fastest street driven car in the country.  As far as ECTA classes - almost all cars can fit in several, so you really need to sit down with the rulebook and work it out.  Again, if you're in NC, we can get together with my rulebook and see what we come up with.

Something we forgot to discuss - there are a bunch of little requirements that I didn't mention.  You'll need metal valve stems/valve caps, and double throttle return springs.  Springs on the throttle shaft DO NOT count.  There are likely a few more of these, but those two popped into my head at dinner.  Also, watch your rims - they will need to be speed rated for the speed you intend to go, and you'll need some kind of proof to show the tech guys.  Most guys run steel wheels, either circle track or stock rims that have been welded wherever the centers contact the outers.

Hope this is helpful.

Dan you didn't mention this but I believe the antenna flag also has to be speed rated. :-D

Yer right Rev - my bad, as the kids say.  I had a chance to chat with Brent on the phone and he seems like a good guy.  I suspect we'll get him addicted quickly.  The car makes a BUNCH of power and he may kick our tails once he grooves in to LSR.  I think he mentioned that he already has some racing licenses in some sanctions - not inexperienced.  He is coming under our power.............

The flag was to honor a fallen friend... We all had a dear and close car guy (WS-6 driver) who was shot down in a CH46 Helo in Iraq the previous year.  This was during his memorial cruise. It normally isn't on the car because it is hell on the antenna @ 55mph.

looks like the final hp number on the car is going to be 985hp 1071tq.  Hopefull that will get me into the 200 mph club!

Nice to be on board.

I'm guessing that's 900 more than I ran last year.  No, I'm not kidding - ask Keith.

A heads up for you if you didn't check it out in the rules - the driver of any blown (including supercharged) car has to wear a 25.5 suit.  Better start checking into it now cause they are pretty spendy.

Sorry, got my numbers all conflagurated.  Don't have my rule book handy.  I just remember that any boosted car needs the super-badass firesuit.
