Shipping bike from Canada to SLC or Wendover?
« on: October 13, 2012, 12:06:21 PM »
Hi all

In planning for next year I'm trying to find the cheapest way to get the bike to Wendover or SLC. I'll fly into SLC next year. does anyone have good recommendations for shipping from Ontario Canada down to bub?

I was thinking fedex or a big name shipping company to start?  With all the international racers at bub there must be some tried and true shipping solutions.

After landing I'm thinking of a rental cube van to work out of.

Thanks and enjoy the weekend. No snow yet!!

If you have any boat dealers in your neck of the woods go and see who they use. That's how I got a bike shipped from Montana to New Hampshire. They even shrink wrapped it for me. Good luck and see ya at BUB 2013.

My occasional suggestion is to look into www.uship.com.  The site is sort of an eBay for shipping, where shippers (you) list the load particulars - when, where from and to, approx weight, description of stuff - - and where haulers look for loads going to places they are heading for.  I had a bike shipped from Virginia to Salt Lake City, for instance, and it stopped in Houston and Denver and another place on the way -- but I got the entire shipment delivered for about $350.  You'd likely get multiple bids, and that allows you to shop.  You specify the time and date -- some of the bidders will want to tie you into a certain date - but you're welcome to say "No -- my date or not at all with you, dork!"

There are other shippers like Uship.com, I think.

you could also ask on here if any other Canadiens are maybe planning on attending Bubs and could bring the bike down with them?

Not sure of cost, but I have friend who went from Indiana to Washington state and back to visit his son a few times.
He took himself, and his motorcycle with gear on an Amtrak train.
Might be worth looking into.  :-)

Also, many times the trip is as fun as the week of racing.
I heard a guy once say a few years ago...

"Well I'm headed out to Utah in a beat up Ford
I've got the tailgate down, and my bike onboard

Hitting the highway at a rapid pace
Driving day and night just to make the race

I've got the Will...to get to Bonneville"

See Ya
