I have a new bike ready to start working with. It was built by a friend and I finished it off .I HOPE to set a record with it and give it to him.
-
Wow 20 views and no replies,,,,,
Eric nice bike,, and of course you know I approve the paint scheme (as well your color choices)
I plan to be at Maxton in June,,, I did lose my only helper.. Not a sole to go with me to Maxton in June or Loring in July...
I can not take the Stude without at least one dedicated helper to be with the car the entire event.
The search is on...
See you in June.
Charles

Eric--talk about "finished it off" don't finish it off like I did the Harley (and a Ford Ranger).
Charles--I've got one good arm and some time, definitely Friday and any breaks Sat & Sun, if that's any help.
-
Thanks Ken,
How are you doing ? Mending well I hope ?
Charles
-
Good to see you are mending Ken. We may be there in June. It has already been a hot stretch here in N.C. with mid to upper 90's everyday. If the end of May was like this who knows what the end of June will be. Air shifter going on the ZX-10 and the ZX-6 is apart as usual. The bikes shouldn't be an issue, but the rider will be if we continue this hot spell. We'll decide for sure in a couple weeks.
-
Leaning towards it
-
I'm planning on it, got a few things to do. Starting to hydrate now :-D
-
We plan on being there
-
Going to be there, hectic and crazed but going to be there with bodywork and a fresh engine with revised breathing based on what I learned in April! Even got a pan under the engine.
-
I have been there for the last 2 June meets. I think I will pass on the extreme heat and humidity this time and shoot for a September run.
-
Randy now man up and get on down here... what's a few degrees between friends !! LOL
The worst case is we burn up a few extra gallons of gas in the generators to run the A/C in trailers...
Charles
-
I am looking forward to seeing you guys. I think things are looking up for me. I may be there to help Charles out on Friday Saturday and Sunday.
-
I need to get up with this meet's volunteer coordinator. I will be coming down Friday, but can't do much physical set-up stuff (help Kim maybe?). See y'all then. I left my e-mail on the Yahoo site.
-
Eric, hope all goes well... I will be running the 355 motor the 255 is awaiting a few more specialty parts to arrive before we start the rebuild.
having the portable chassis dyno delivered next saturday to tune the 355 before we load for Maxton.
Charles
-
Charles, I would love to come down to race or just help you out, but us retired guys have to watch those travel expenses. I've decided to take my time with the new build since it will be so much faster than the pushrod motors I have built before...safety first!
-
Me and Amy will be there with the "new" car. Been thrashing on it every day after work and on the weekends as well. Since my shop is "Al Fresco" and we've been without rain or shade I have acclimating nicely. Hydrating as much as possible
-
Eric - The bike looks awesome. Good luck with the record chase and awesome gesture to give it to your friend!!
Hopefully Jack-Scratch racing will have a running vehicle. Hubby-Captthundarr and our adopted son - JP have been kicking it into overdrive to have it ready for a atleast a few shake down runs. It will be my first runs in a year since the KIA was run over. Miss that mile adrenaline rush.
Charles- I agree something missin' in that quarter mile!
HAGO my fellow racers! :-D

I have my car apart getting it ready for Bonneville, so won't be able to make it. What started out as a few updates has turned into a bunch of projects. Moving my switches to where I can see them has turned in to some roll cage reinforcements. Plus the transmission install. Now we are going to dyno the motor so we know what its power range is. I hope to be ready by Loring but even that is looking like it may not happen. Guess it is better to be ready and safe for August.
Charles, I am sure you will find someone, who would not want to hang with such a cool Studebaker and good guy?
I hate to miss all of the great cars/trucks/bikes plus the great LSR people.
Have fun and go fast!
Bill
-
Bill, hope all goes well with the modifications. Try to make Loring.. you will love it.
I have been doing a few changes to get ready for Bonneville in September (World of Speed)
The last E motor parts are just a week away, so for Maxton this month I will have to run the C motor again, the portable chassis dyno will be here by this weekend,, going to do some tune work at the shop before we load for Maxton this time,, last time we just put the motor in on Wednesday and left for Maxton on Friday with no testing.
It would sure be great if you get done for Loring,,, THRASH and getter done..
Charles

I spent the weekend putting my bike together.I did some damage to the motor in May so I thought I was out of luck for June. But I was able to fit a 2001 engine and dual exhaust in the 2008 frame. I will be there Friday morning to help you Charles
-
Possibly :-D
-
Pulling the s10 out of moth balls still has the $100.00 motor should run 140
-
Terry. Hope to see u and the S10 in two weeks...u

Charles forgot to ask...is the "E " motor ready for Maxton?

Bill
Not yet,,, waiting on replacement valves... special orders for these one off deals are a pain to cope with.
Hope to have ready after Maxton and Thrash to remove 355 motor and install 255 motor for Loring.
Doing a valvetrain upgrade and cam change on the 355 this weekend and chassis dyno to tune new set up for Maxton.
Last minute upgrade, I know,I know,, more work in the pursuit of speed and reliability.

OK, we are in for June. Bikes are nearly ready. Mr Weatherperson says the temps are headed back into the mid to upper 90's next week with high humidity. Plan accordingly. Love these N.C. summers.

Going to leave Thursday
-
Working on Driver cooling hoses tomorrow,, have the F.A.S.T. system and blower installed,, just routing hoses for final fit, cut and install. Just add electricity and Ice and I am good to go.

This year it's looking good for Team 608 from Jersey to head to the June meet. I was down there two years ago and didn't prepare well enough, I brought enough beer but didn't have the time to find NC Bar-B-Que.
This time I'm gonna ask here before we leave for suggestions on BBQ. Is there any near Laurinburg? I guessing that we are staying near there as that's where we were last time.
Thanks.
Frank
-
Frank, Laurinburg has a SmithFields BBQ,,,, very good "Eastern Carolina Style BBQ" great southern fried chicken too,,, a combo plate of both is under $10.... now since I live near Lexington NC,,, I could be in trouble as this part of the State sell "Lexington Style or "Western Carolina BBQ" I like both styles.
Eastern Style is Vinager based sauce and Lexington Style has tomato base...
Bring plenty of Ice for the Beer,,, it is going to be HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Charles

Charles, THANK YOU.
Looked that up on Google and it's closeby.
I like anything that don't have mayonaise in it, So I'm good with that.
Lots of ice. I drove my 54 Chevy down last time and used the IR thermometer on the floor, 140*. Riding in the tow Suburban this time. :)
See youse there!

Well I will be there this weekend with my Nitrous Honda 250. I finally made it down to the shop over the weekend. I had my speedo/tach/H2O Temp dash stop working last meet. We decided it might be dead from vibration. But I now bothered to read the Troubleshooting part of the manual and found that it was merely a dead internal battery. You know that cheap ($3.50) actually available almost anywhere 3v flat battery that I forgot was even in there. Put a new one in and the unit said "Thanks, I needed that!"
I just picked up two freshly filled 2 1/2lb NOS bottles. Hopefully they are full of Laughing rather than Crying Gas. Based on the weather forecast I guess I won't need a bottle heater to reach 900psi....Also with the hot humid air driving the Oxygen concentration down I will be glad to be importing my own N2O into the combustion chamber to minimize the bad effect. Hopefully I can match that with the right amount of fuel. See everyone Friday afternoon.
Jon W and Nancy W, you guys coming?
-
No, dang it, we won't be there this time, either. This is the longest stretch of no Maxton events for us - in about ten years. We've got an all-day seminar in Chicago this Saturday, where we'll learn much more about sublimation of apparel. Hunh? In other words, once we've learned and bought some equipment -- we'll be able to make t-shirts with real photos and logos and whatever - right on the shirts, in full color. Hats and coffee cups and mouse pads and crystal paperweights and such. Gotta keep growing the company, you know.
Anyway, the big bike -- Nancy's ZX15 (as we call it) isn't ready yet. The engine should be reassembled by the end of this week, and then it goes back into the bike for all of that work - including some tuning and maybe a bit of ballast in the swingarm. All of this work is intended to help her at Bonneville - as she doesn't enjoy riding a fast bike at Maxton.
So no, we don't plan to be at Maxton this weekend. Sorry -- but we'll think of you folks enjoying the fine almost-summer weather. It's raining and chilly up here - and this is the first full day of summer, right? :?
-
heat index today in Laurinburg was 104......bring your ice
-
Doing a cam, lifters and valve spring swap right now,,, hope to have done and ready to tune when the portable chassis dyno arrives tomorrow afternoon.
Yes,,, ICE ICE baby,,, bringing plenty of ice and gas for the generator,,, firing up both roof air's... the crew will be selling T Shirts from the Air Conditioned Trailer,,

The temp is actually supposed to drop by the weekend. Low 90's, but high humidity. I'm in North Central NC and we were in code red air quality yesterday for the smoke from the coastal wild fires. The smoke haze dropped visibility to less than 2 miles. It smelled like the fire was next door. Friends in the Pembroke, Southern Pines and Lumberton area said they were all basically clear. The wind had kept the smoke away. It was 100 at Maxton yesterday. Looking forward to the cool low 90's.

bummer, can't be there. any body got a degree wheel kit for a OHC engine?
-
The days activities are certainly over by now, does anyone care to make a status report?
-
Dean ran 245 on hiz turbo zx10, Bill is testing on the front half.
-
No numbers other than temp. 96 deg. humid. 96% knats 96billion. Not allot of folks. lots of hot lapping. Our car had to make a trip to the fab shop so we just went to spectate. :-)

Captthunder;
Gnats can be useful, believe it or not-- at a practice session at Zeltweg, John Horsman of JWA Gulf/Porsche noticed that there were no smashed gnats on the tail of the Porsche 917. This indicated that the airflow was not going over the tail. Some aluminum, pop rivets, and voila! the evil handling problem of the 917 was solved.
See where the pattern of gnats is on your car and you can tell a lot about its aerodynamics.
Regards, Neil Tucson, AZ
-
Neil, never though about the areo test pattern thing with the gnats. only considered the nutritional benefit of the added protein of inhaling 10 to 20 of the little buggers per breath. Good thing I had something to wash'em down with.

This is the first time I've missed two Maxton events in a row since I started coming. I hope everyone had a great time and it sounds like a safe meet, which is always a GREAT thing.
Mom passed away a couple of weeks ago so that portion of my life (Momcare) is done. While we'll miss her it was time for her to go. She was nearly 91 years old and her body was just worn out.
So I'll be back on schedule from here on out. I'm thinking of bringing Mom's '88 (I think it is) 4 cylinder Celebrity for some (relatively) high-speed passes down the Monster Mile. It's coming back to me as I provided it to her 10 years ago or more. No idea what the class will be yet but I'm thinking PS?
