I had a great time this weekend....chilled out with Rich and Roy.

Rode Roy's ZX-15 to 218.3 mph.  Definately more in it but we had to adapt and ride around some electrical problems.

Rode Rich's ZX-14 to 199.3 mph.  Maybe a teeny more in it, not sure if I was on the soft limiter but I felt like I was at redline for the last 1/10 mile, wasn't picking up any more RPMs.  Maybe a gearing change???

All in all, very fun.  I regret not bringing my 12 and 250 but neither were really ready.  Tons of runs for everyone for sure.  Not too hot....crosswinds sometimes blew me around at the big end.  I'd trade away a tail/crosswind for no winds, but thats just me.

As requested, pics:

Roy on Rich's bike....STUNNA!!!!

Roy pulling logs, analyzing data .... and other duties best left to those with 4 eyes.

Last runs on Sunday .... threw on Roy's cut tank to see if Rich could break his presonal best of 197.

Really doesn't look that bad:

And a horrible "Rich vs Roy" pic from what had to be the very first digital camera ever produced.....ever.

Good times.....I'll post up video soon, just got some sleep (hey, what a concept!)

Very special thanks to the guy on the Busa who gave Roy and I the nitrous on Saturday....who knew we'd be putting 10 lbs of spray through the stroker in 9 hours!!!!  We never counted on getting that many runs in.

There was a turbo 1000 sitting at the back of the staging lanes on a tire warmer....just waiting for the right time to strike....and it did....clocking a 239 mph pass by the end of the day out of NOWHERE!!!

Hope to make it out there in June for some fun runs.

A.

Title: What an awesome weekend!
Post by: Kix on May 16, 2011, 12:00:58 PM
ALL I CAN SAY IS "WOW"!!!!  WHAT A WEEKEND!!!

FIRST AND FOREMOST: I want to offer my sincerest gratitude and appreciation to every single ECTA volunteer working to keep us safe and helping us go fast and have fun...  you guys are my heroes and I am truly humbled by your enthusiastic and giving spirits!!!

That said... I think this might have been the most fun I have ever packed into a single weekend in my entire life!!!!!!!

Awesome weather, awesome people, track was in great shape, a tailwind on Saturday, run as many laps as you want....... what more could you ask for!

We were able to get in seven passes over 190mph this weekend in our little truck, and set a class record on every single pass - beating one record by over 30mph!  We also got to know some fellow racers better, met some great new people, and hope to hear from and see you all again very soon!

Kix

Hey, Kix -- thanks for letting us know that you had fun.  We told you so, didn't we?  Your truck sure looks ready to run - and it must have been if you were able to go well and fast all weekend.

Nancy and I weren't able to be there -- but one of these days - one of these days we will, and then we'll get to put faces on some of the names - like yours.  Later - -

Hey - fun videos.  But what's with the dust I keep seeing at about the 1/2 mile?  I heard there were no oildowns, so kitty litter wouldn't be the cause.
Thanks for the video.  Pretty good, too.  Used a tripod?

It was some kind of combine type farm equipment operating out in the field left of us towards the airport.

Thankfully the dust blew down and away from us,, not back towards us or the track.

Greg, Roy, Rich, and Ali were a blast to watch at the end of Sunday.  Just big stupid grins all the way around.  Charles I always enjoy your wonderful wonderful junk.  It was fun to pick Calvin's brain about living above the shop, flood planes and other LSR relevant stuff.  All I really wanted to do all weekend was rock the Crosley till a couple of wheels left the ground.

Speaking for the start line crew.  Its a long weekend but it sure as hell aint work!

A big thank you to the Maxton Volunteers and the ECTA full timers. I made 7 runs too and missed 4 gears in the process...a record I am not proud of. But the Rev limiter did its job and I did not make an oily mess for everyone. We left with a couple of records so we are satisfied with our progress. We had a great time, enjoyed short lines and met some interesting and helpful people.

Charles and Kix thanks for the advice. The guys with the injected Miller dirt tracker were a lot of fun while we waited for the fire truck. I am in awe of the people that ride motorcycles at Maxton...the speeds and the skill it takes are amazing.

Lots of work to do on the 2100. Hope to make it in June.

Thanks again,

Bill

Bill I was watching my in car and the frame timer and it looks like from the time I got on the gas it took 16 seconds from first to fourth gear and a total of 28 seconds from hitting the gas and pulling the chute.

Those shifts where not by best.. let me edit the other runs and post tomorrow,, one of them was a bit busy in the cockpit as I had excessive tire spin and the steering, shifting and setting up for my desired line for 3rd and 4th gear had me miss one shift point by 200rpms and that cost me 1 mph.

Some will tell you early shift points dont matter,, but I feel it does and most of my in car footage can prove that launch and shift points do matter.

Talk to you later.

Charles

The weekend was awesome.  It didn't start well with exploding the front fender of the ZX-10 on the first pass.  We bumped our APS/G-1000/4 two times out to 201.722.  We also bumped our MPS/G-650/4 record two times out to 182.09537.  Strange thing is our APS/G-650/4 record from September 2010 is 182.09537.  I think we made a total of 19 passes.  7 on the 600 with 4 over 180mph and 12 on the 1000 with 6 over 200 mph and 4 at 199 mph.  It was great to see everyone again.

Gotta agree with hitting your shift points right. My first run in Kix's truck I went about 180 shifting at 8k+. The other runs were right around 193mph shifting at 9200. Our rear gear is a little tall for the 28" tires though so hopefully in October we can try for 200 with a little lower gear.

We had a great time at Maxton first the crew helped set up the coarse on Friday during the day. Then everyone waited until well after 6PM to set up the finish line timers and set out the cones along the shut down lane seems the security group is not very friendly towards the ECTA I give Joe and Keith a lot of credit for putting up with their junk.

I ran my flathead Ford powered Lakester hoping for a 150 MPH pass to get another check on my helmet. On my first pass I did it running 154.319 next run in the heat of the day she ran 150.727 both runs resulted in records. Once again I learned a little more about the car were looking forward to running latter in the season but next up will be Loring.
Here's the 154 run its a blast sitting just inches off the ground kind of like a go cart on steroids.

Well I am not sure .Yes the other side is fine. I will have to do some testing of my nitrous system BUT it might have to do with my choice in pistons. I may have used forged pistons but the dome is to thin. Ether way I will not spray again until I figure this out. Steep learning curve going where no man has gone before ( on a 250 Ninja) :-P

Yes I have a nice shelf full of offerings to the God of speed.

Most notable loss of traction was upon leaving the push truck. One more time, after the 3-4 shift, I was too far right and it did a little dance but I only thought about lifting for a split second. Otherwise it was really stable and confidence inspiring. Thank you concrete, mickey thompson and asphalt.

Thanks Bill!

Check out this in-car video... I am feeling things out for the first run back after re-assembling the truck from the crash, so I am lazy shifting at 7,500 to 8,000rpm.  But, you can see how effortless the shifts are, my hands are relaxed and hardly pulling the knob at all.

Charles:  you are right about the RPM spikes... hard to believe that 4500lbs could lose traction but it is - we are learning where the truck likes to run and our later passes were much better.  Check out the spikes on here just after the 3-4 shift.  I might have puckered just a little on this one!

Deveral of David Whealon's photos have shown bikes (Dean and Greg for sure) getting off the ground just a bit at about the 3/4 mile. Do any of the car on board data collectors reflect any evidence of this?

No data collecter,,, however when in high gear pulling hard and the rpm spike 300 to 500 rpms and hits the rev limiter while rear end dances out a bit,,, on can only think the rear tires jumped off the track or at lease unloaded the suspension enough to loose traction...
