With the recent news that 2011 "may" be our last season at Maxton, I have started thinking.... I know me thinking again is dangerous LOL
I have been running on.chasing and setting records with my "E" engine at Maxton and Loring... I knew that that little 255 cu.in. would not be able to break 200mph from a standing start in the Mile at Maxton, I do however think I have a chance at Loring (may be a dream, but I feel the E motor can do it)..
My sadness is I wanted a 200 Club from Maxton (my home track and the ECTA my home club) now that is the dilemma !!! the E gas motor can not do it... I know of no classic gas car that could with an E motor... so
I THOUGHT I Had more TIME...... the only option is use another motor !!
Oh my !!! I thought I had more time !!!
To anyone who has dreams or goals for them at Maxton,,, you have the same time dilemma ... get your projects done.. See you all in April..

maybe time to bail out on running parts wash. What is that sweet smell burning my nostrils?
-
I know how Charles is feeling. I'm about to be 74 so my time on a bike may be running out soon.
My 100cc production bike is still ill and I really want to do 70mph on it at Maxton. So, if I am lucky I will have 5 more chances. Some things I thought I had more time for are going to have to come up in priority.
Loring is a long way for a 2 day meet and with the coming of $6 gas probably not something I will be able to do.
Maxton here I come.

Cajun, it's gonna cost you one way or another.
You have confidence in your E motor.
Dallas knows.
Hit it with the can.
Then u are racing.

Buy dickj's firebird and do a quick engine swap. Should be an easy 200.

charles, i know a dude who might have a big ole dodge motor that would put the stude over 200,, just an option!!!! :-D
-
charles hang 2 hairdriers off that e motor an itll go 200 :-D
-
You know what you have to do Charles. But be careful, Test and tune with safety in mind And a BIG motor or come to the dark side (Nitrous) or both :-D
-
Charles - do not go over to the dark side - it is where peope specialize in making many many small useless parts out of one big part that used to be a good motor. Just buy my firebird. If 850 HP pushed me past 200, it ought to really make that stude fly!

I know you guys understand...
I can't say never,,, but "Artificial Horse Power" like N20 or forced induction is just not my style... I want to do it on race gas and a single carb... and I will !!!
I do have a 370 cu in SBC... that I could pull out of the Vicky and put "the good heads" on it.. that would surely get me 200 at Maxton.... It is just a lot of work, to tear down 2 cars twice to do it.....
I may re tool my thoughts after Loring in July with the E motor,,, then swap motors for a run at 200 at Maxton in Sept/Oct.
Yeah, I could just put a 200 shot on the E motor and go for it,,, but !!!! that would be a tough choice for an old school traditionalist like me.
Working on several back up plans now...

choose carefully ... there will be an ECTA just not sure where or how many events ... there is still Loring ...

Joe, I know there will still be an ECTA, maybe even a new and improved multi track version. Maxton Mile is what I was referring to... and with the E motor,,, Yes I am scheduled to go to Loring,, looking forward to it...Now that I know how long the drive up is,,,I have alloted more time to be less rushed and enjoy the trip more. (still have crew/help concerns that far from home)

Charles, I'm not sure N20 is artificial HP... :| It is not just something I would bolt on and hold the button for 20 seconds, but it will help your motor consume more fuel thus making more power. I've never considered it the dark side, it just makes you a fuel car, kinda like nitro on demand...

You know Im teasing you Charles

I'd love to come pit crew for you in Loring, but - I'll be at Bonneville this year, and there's still taking care of my Mom, AND - And - and...........
Maybe next year

Hey, is there actually a functional airport at Loring?

Close, less than 30 minutes ...I think

Charles-- if ECTA doesn't find a new home near NC and you still need crew, I've got a sleeping bag, will ride in the hauler, provide 24hr security and given my mechanical abilities, you could use my head for a wheel chock. -Ken
-
Ken, I have room in the truck,,, no need to ride in the hauler....
hmm 24 hour trackside security sounds good..... that way would not have to put in and out of the hauler every night.
Let's talk at Maxton,,,

You might think nitrous or forced induction is not real. But I have a real green hat, to prove it, and a real 212 record that may never be broken at Maxton. It would be nothing to drop the compression on your motor and put two turbo's on. I've done it, and it works... Be an old dog, but learn new tricks...

Charles, how much HP will that 370 make with the good heads? Even in a slick car like the stude, I think you're gong to need something in the area of 775hp to make the 200mph mark. That HP curve gets really, really steep above 185mph.

Oh. I was kind of hoping there was a way to land on the same facility the track is at. It's hard for me to taxi the plane on streets. End hijack

Charles if you have the time and the money, there is no better time then now!!!!!!

Charles if you have the time and the money, there is no better time then now!!!!!!
Mike,,, I am not sure I have the time (if I sell my 36 Ford Roadster, I will have the money)
Plan now for the Stude
April - Maxton with E motor
May - Maxton with E motor
June - Maxton with E motor
July - Maine with E motor
Aug or Sep - Bonneville SW or USFRA with E motor
Sep - Maxton E with power adder or C motor on gas
Oct - Maxton " "
But ya never know ???
Charles
-
POWER ADDER???. Thats the spirit.
-
POWER ADDER???. Thats the spirit.
Eric, now don't jump to conclusions,,, I know you are thinking N2O (the Juice),, but hmm power adder could also be Turbo, Super Charger, or Fuel or a combo !!!
Fuel or a Blower may be easier.... Turbo's are much more plumbing and exhaust work...and on a quick swap may be more problematic...
Charles
-
I'm thinking 30 or 40% NITRO by Oct. if all go's as planned..How long it gotta run Charles?? I think it will live 45 or 50 seconds......
-
There is plenty of room under the hood. A big block and a 6-71 might push you along .
-
bring a large bag for the parts that get shed on the track ... watch that nitro stuff
-
Yee of little faith... I still think a NA SBC can do 200 at Maxton,,,, I may be off my rocker... only time will tell.
Charles

Charles, never say never. Just try harder.

Im all for watching people go for what the believe in, but you are going to need a really serious 18* motor to go 2 bills in the mile. Remember its takes around 750 rwhp with aero in the high .2 range to go 200.0000000 at maxton.
Look at it this way if your current motor makes 550-650 rwho now throw a 150-200 shot on it and go for it.

An "average" old (2007) technology Chevy SB 2.2 358" Cup or ARCA engine will make 825 -850 flywheel hp at about 92-9400 rpm and do it long time, GI. This is with an 830 Holley on 110 race gas and a set of old Cup tri-y headers. Talk to your neighbors at RCI. There are some bargains to be had if you want to take a serious run at it in 2011. vic

Charles:
I took a long look at your car at the October Maxton event and on line. I like your approach. I hope you make the big 200 with the E motor. If all goes well I will be at Maxton with a D motor trying to go fast.
Good luck,
Bill

Agreed... SB2.2 will be the easiest way to make power out of a "SBC". Is it the coolest way?? Probably not.
I love your "E" motor approach. As long as your budget will allow, the quest with the "E" motor is what it's all about.
-
Charles, you're absolutely right. You ARE off your rocker. Which puts you in good company - aren't we all? And, only time will tell. Want to borrow the Camaro for the E-motor? I'm pretty short on time to mess with it.
