From time to time there are pre-COT rollers for sale. Aside from engine size, what would be a logical class to consider for these cars?
-
This should get interesting...
Brace yourself my friend.
-
None that I know of, well maybe streamliner if no production body panels were used. If not it would run for Time Only if you passed tech.

Stick a Diesel engine in one and you and Pat can race each other  :-D

Thought about a Craftsman Truck with diesel power. I'm just worried that it might turn left unexpectedly. :|

Hmm,, you may have opened up a can of worms from the West Coast crowd..
ECTA / Maxton has a circle track class ( easy to figure out why )
Other than that and possibly LTA,, not sure those type cars get much good press around LSR folks.

Better to ask the experts than make an expensive mistake.
-
There is no class for nascar......notice I did NOT capitalize the letters?! :-D
This could be a very interesting thread! Just remember fellas...you can't get too persnickity..you don't have time, racing is coming in a couple months!!!
Lynda

Lynda, correct spelling is "pernickety" -- there's no "s" in that word. Really -- look it up if you don't believe me.
-
Nascar vehicles have been discussed in the past. you can do a search in the archives and find it.

at length, with passion, from all sides. If Jon was less persnickerery (prone to eat Snickers) he would probably put nascar into the word filter and change it to roundyround... and he would know smell check says there's an s
Kent, got any Skittles

Things have changed, both are correct. I like you both so don't scold the messenger.
• pernickety •
Printable Version Pronunciation: pêr-nik-i-ti • Hear it!
Part of Speech: Adjective
Meaning: [Slangy] 1. (US) Fussy or exacting about details, fastidious, 2. (UK) Snobbish, supercilious, pretentious.
Notes: No, it isn't a typo; the original word was pernickety without the S. The S crept in later in the US but is spreading to other dialects of English around the world. The noun referring to the quality of a pernickety person is pernicketiness and the seldom used adverb is pernicketily. Feel free to include or omit the S.
In Play: If you are pernickety about your speech, you will probably want to use the S-less version of today's word: "Never help Gilda Lilly set the table. She is so pernickety about where every piece goes, she will drive you insane." If you prefer to talk like everyone else, you can cave in and include the S: "June McBride is so persnickety about her clothes, she changes them two or three times a day."
Word History: No one knows where today's Good Word comes from. It is clear that pernickety was first published in 1802 and preceded persnickety, which first appeared in print in 1892. This means that we are free to speculate on its origin until someone unearths real evidence. It may be a whimsical creation that caught our imaginations and stuck, like stick-to-itiveness. It might have originally been an accidental blend, a speech error in which we search for a word in memory, come up with two having the same or complementary meanings, and "blend" them together in speaking. That is the origin of smog, a blend of smoke and fog. Pernickety could have been a three-way blend of particular, niggling, and finicky. However, keep in mind that this is all blind speculation for those who are not pernickety about their etymology.

Dam .....Old Gringo is an English Teacher  or the Moderator of the National Spelling Bee ..

Well there is a connection I did not expect. I just spent the last two hours on Merriam-Webster Spell It practicing with my daughter. The Spelling Bee is in two weeks. I never thought I would slide into word definitions and etymology directly.
Linda, always good to hear from you now matter how you spell.
Because I'm off subject... Thinking of you warm Southwest folks. We are going for the zero record here.

Interesting that. Collins shows it as "pernickity" while Mirriam-Webster shows it as "persnickity". So I guess its a case of pay your money and take your choice. Leaves you to wonder if its persimmons or pernimmons?
-
I say persimmons, and the make the best cookies, Mom used to have a tree in her yard.

DanC All kidding aside You can see by our rule book they fit nothing.
As for as class; what year would you want? nascar changes every year to a rulebook we cannot see sometimes 2 or 3 times. Who would have the templates for each year in the past and for current models for every manufacture. We wouldn't want anyone to cheat now would we...opps, I'm mean get caught. Logistics would be a nightmare. So we will leave them alone as they do us.
The ony beef there was concerning the words 'Speed Week" and we were there first in 1949 and they wisely let sleeping dogs lie. Good Luck............................... :-D
-
Thanks all. Even for the spelling/english lesson. I went back to the 2007 thread for some history. Now I'm wondering, what if someone put doors on a Cup car.....

If you put doors on a cup car it would result in a car that is not in any class in SCTA but is probably be easier to get in and out of . . . . :-D
Charles mentioned the Circle Track classes at Maxton. Other than that there is nothing available for cup cars.
For those out there that think this is unreasonable . . so be it.
To turn the question around . . . why doesn't NASCAR let lakesters run at Daytona?
-
Why doesn't NASCAR let lakesters run at Daytona?
Awesome!!!
Or motorcycles... :-D
-
John, they do run motorcycles at Datona... been trying to get them to let me run the lakester there for years, seems they are too persnickety with their rules. If they weren't pernickety, we could even let the toads run roadsters....
-
Okay, I yield to your pair of definitions/spellings and won't hassle folks about that particular word any more. Thanks for the in-depth details.
As for the curse-word filter -- yes, I could, but just in case we get someone new here and he asks about "Nascar" I don't want to get him too cornfused. I'll wait and see how bad the Subaru-storm gets.
-
Just a little note - My printed Websters dictionary shows both spellings as correct.
-
Wow!! What a can of worms that opened! And Jon, your spell check didn't show it spelled wrong, so there ya go, it's your fault! Geez, is it August yet?
Not-an-English Major-Lynda :-D
-
Lynda, you've got to remember that the folks the write the spell-check programs aren't necessarily good spellers - so don't always take the S-C's word for it. I'm a better speller in that I know whether I mean "threw" or "through", for instance.

Jon, isn't that grammar, not spelling....
But on a lighter note, somebody asked me if I knew how heavy the liner was, I said no weigh....

Stainless,,
Yes Wey ??

Very punny.

Well, that's lightened up a thread with the acronym NASCAR in it. That doesn't usually happen. :-D

I am waiting for Kent to tell us the Skittles joke....

I'm just puzzled why NASCAR isn't more popular in Kalifornia. :|
They always turn to the left. Maybe because there are only two straights present? :?
-
I am waiting for Kent to tell us the Skittles joke....
Is it dumping a bag of Skittles in the toilet, flush it, and it looks like a NASCAR race?
-
Bingo!
Seems better when Kent writes it.... :-D

Why the wait?

"Toiet"?
Must be French....the "L" ran away... :-D

Speaking of him -- where's Kent been hiding? Nothing here from him in a couple of weeks. . .
-
He'll pop up soon, he's been a little busy these last few weeks, :-D
-
Good -- I miss his rapier-sharp wit and ingenious use of the American language. Not to mention his stuff.
Is he at his shop/office? I've got a question about some bodywork -- shall I email or call?
-
I reached him at the shop just before Christmas. Don't forget he comes in late and stays real late.

This deal about a NASCAR class isn't as bad as some have indicated. I think the problem arose when the discussion started and the proponents did like what they were getting for responses. As with many internet threads the pro-NASCAR side devolved into name calling, picked up their COT and left for other websites.
Pat, if California had a race track worth a crap you may see more seats in the seats. One of most boring tracks I have ever seen and this includes everything that races the oval.

Slim e-mail him that would probably be easiest way to catch him
-
I called him the other day on his cell and he answered...must of thought it was someone else... :-D
John
