Title: Need help picking a class for my car.
Post by: twinturbo496 on December 05, 2009, 04:13:29 PM
Any suggestions will be appreciated basically what is the slowest class that this car fits into?

I know the chop job on my car sucks, I did it in college, and never fixed it.  I will be cutting the roof off again this winter to convert from rollbar to full cage, when the cage is done I will just hire someone to put the top on correctly.

I won't ever set any records at the salt flats, but I do want to run my car there again.   A long time friend is going back to improve on his motorcycle record, since I am going to be there anyway I just want to run my car again in a class that doesn't have a speed limit.

Here is the car.

Other info:
496 BBC
last year: Bowers 8-71 & two AFB 750's & .620 roller
this year: BDS 14-71 & three AFB 750's & .685 roller + snow performance methanol injection
4L80E transmission
9" Ford with spool & probably 3.00 gears for salt flats
Goodyear front runners are already on the front, I guess some short track tires for the back, 28 or 29" tall.

The engine makes less than 650 rwhp on 87 octane with the 8-71 & small cam.  The new setup should make just under 750 rwhp.

It already has 5 point belt, arm restraints, full fire suit, fuel cell, battery disconnect, etc.

Not that it matters but the car weighs 3800# with driver and runs low 10's @ 130

From the looks of your car, I would say that you could possibly run Competition Coupe and "maybe" Altered Coupe. I would suggest that you get a rule book to make sure your car fits in one of those classes. You can pick one up at this web-site, www.scta-bni.org. Good luck with your project and I hope to see you in 2010.

A/BGCC

ouch, record is 258 mph...

Oh well, perhaps I will have the fastest A/BGCC that drove over 700 miles one way to compete.

If I ran at the WOS 2009 in the 130 club, will I get a copy of the SCTA rule book sent to me?  I think maybe not...

Me thinks you should join the SCTA and get a 2010 rule book.

Have fun,,, cool car...

You get a rule book with membership fees.
At the ECTA works that way i would assume the SCTA is the same.

But -- to run the 130 Club you need to join the USFRA, not the SCTA.

Really if you want to get a rule book and run at WoS you need to join USFRA. If you want to run Speed Week you need to join BNI. You do not need to join SCTA unless you want to run at El Mirage and that requires your being a member of one of the SoCal clubs.

Actually, the rules are available on line.

As far as the SCTA rule book is concerned, it's only $10.00 (at least it was last year), and well worth the investment.

If you're turning 130 in the quarter, perhaps the 150 club should be where you're looking -

Craig, the chop doesn't suck.  It's a Hot Rod, not a Custom, and it looks gnarly, JUST LIKE IT SHOULD.

Don't know what class it would run in SCTA -- could be Classic Blown Gas Altered, Blown Gas Altered, or Blown Gas Competition Coupe.  All those are about 240 MPH records.  And in SCTA you have to build the car for the record speed in the class -- something that may force you to do more than you want.

Talk your buddy into going to the USFRA WoS meet in September, if you try to race it at Speedweek, the tires alone will cost you a bunch, plus fire system, and the  list goes on and on...  Spend $10 on the scta rulebook to see what you are in for, then race the WoS club.  The 150 club will allow you to run 159.9 on the same course your buddy is running, but look up the rules on their website, link on the homepage of this site.
