FInally made it to Bonneville after years of dreaming about it. I stumbled upon this site and just signed on. I think I may have caught the Streamliner bug.....and had a question that I thought I would post. Does anyone have any experience with a leaf spring mounted straight axle on a streamliner? Good or bad. Thanks.
-
Why springs when a coil over would allow a narrower and more controlable front axle. What is your goal for a streamliner, engine, chassis, wheel base, etc. Oh, welcome to the forum the place to learn.
-
I just plan to build something with the pieces that I have....which includes a straight axle that is narrow enough for what I need. I saw a whole lot of different configurations at Seed Week; was really just wondering if leaf springs up front were restricted. As far as goals, chassis, and wheel base goes, I am just taking notes at this point...but the engine is a 426 Chrysler.

Straight axles with leaf springs are not restricted but you will need shocks with it. Coil overs take care of both. You are going to have a lot to think about before you start a build. What area do you live in. We have people all over the country. Could be someone near you that might be able to help you out.

I definately understand that there is a lot to think about, and I have been "taking notes" for a little over a year now. Not a new comer to racing, and horse power, but am new to LSR, so I am desirous to learn from folks that have been down the long track a few times. I am in Scottsdale, AZ. Would definately like to connect with someone in this neck of the woods with Streamliner chassis and suspension experience if you can help. Tom Klien (Royal Purple engine builder) is nearby in Chandler, but I have the engine and drive train side of it in order.

Welcome to the Forum and the website, Flying Tiger. I'm the head handlebar holder of the site -- and am out at Bonneville right now "covering" the Bub's event. We're always glad to have folks find us - glad to offer whatever help we can. Most of the stuff you'll get is help - some might be couched in terms that seem a bit off - but enjoy it for good-natured ribbing and come back for more.

Thanks Jon! Looks to be a great place to learn a few things about LSR. Enjoy your time up there. Mark

There are several LSR people in AZ. I am sure they will read this and maybe help you out when you get further along. Tomorrow nite at 7:00 pm mtn. time we have a chat line. That's a great place to start meeting and getting to know in your area. Please join us. see cover page and click on the chat tab.

Mark;
I'm down in Tucson, building a B/GMS. If you get down this way, let me know. There are quite a few others closer to you-- Ed Van Scoy is in Gilbert and Sparky is somewhere in the Phoenix area. There are others, these two just came to mind.
Get a rule book first before you finallize your plans and read the rule book VERY carefully.
Good luck with your hemi project.
Regards, Neil Tucson, AZ
