Title: Books/Info On LSR History and Machines?
Post by: Warp12 on August 14, 2009, 02:23:10 PM
I was wondering if someone could suggest some good reading material relating the history of LSR? I'm not sure that there is a vast selection of books out there, but I know that someone here can provide some suggestions.

Thanks.

Shane

A lot of folk recommend "Winds of Change", we bought a copy at Bville, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet.

The best book I've seen is by Louise Noeth aka "LandSpeed Louise".

I even read the text rather than just look at the pictures...

Warp,

It all depends on what really interests you or whether you are just starting out following LSR.

Authros David Tremayne and Land Speed Louise have titles that will start you off.

I am biased but a full set of Fast FACTS in binders from the speed record club cover the widest range of topics written articles by European specialists including our own 'Pork Pie'.

I think that you will find somewhere beten forty and fifty titles (some out of print) when you start looking in bookstores or on Amazon.

A little more information and this forum will give you precise deatils of what to look out for.

I just received an email from Popular Mechanics magazine -- with some links to articles they've got on their site right now.  Take a look if you've got a few minutes.

Motorbooks has "The Birth of Hot Rodding:  The Story of the Dry Lakes Era"  ISBN 0-7603-2144-2  See www.motorbooks.com   There are more Motorbooks books on land speed and the folks who race.

Type key words like "Arfons" into you tube.  It will lead to all sorts of interesting old film clips.  Those guys back in the jet car era were brave, talented, and just plain crazy.
