Title: Volunteers
Post by: Bob Wanner on July 09, 2009, 09:41:32 PM
We've received many emails from everybody wanting to help out at LTA/09.
I need to update that  list of people , plus get the days they are available, and what experience they've had at other LSR venues.
Ideally we'd like to have multiple individuals familiar with each position , so that nobody gets stuck on a job for so long a time that they can't also enjoy the actual meet.
We especially need back up in the Timing stand/tower area and at the registration table.
Spend a few hours, train somebody, then they can pass on that skill to another and we can all both see the event from different viewpoints and have a trained base of troops for the future.
We need help setting up Mile Markers, Cones, viewing ramps ( formerly Airport portable stairs), on Friday. Plus Tech in the afternoon.
Sat and Sun we need everybody, obviously, and we may need just a few for a likely pair of private events that recently surfaced the Monday and Tuesday following.
Just drop us a line here, briefly tell us what you can offer.
I've worked in Volunteer organizations for years, and I appreciate any help whether you give us a minute or 24/7.
Join the LTA Staff, see the top of The World.
Bob Wanner...

I am close to biting the motel room bullet and leaving here wednesday instead of thursday.  That will get in there early friday to help with set up.  I have helped lay out cones and dragged some timing wires before as well as the highly desired rock kicking duty!   What do you have to use as a timing tower?  I imagine it is a bit harder to manage if you don't have a good view of the course and shutdown area.

My current plan is to leave Friday a.m. early and ride up (arrive noon or early p.m. ? ); I have to be home sometime Monday.  No experience but am fast learner and technically inclined.  Also own a "Will Talk Cars With Anyone" tee-shirt.   :-P

The famous "DTIMNEY", herself?  Coolomatic, and howdy, Donya.  It's a pleasure to have you join the Forum, and we all look forward to seeing many posts from you - as time goes past.

As I've already said here, Nancy and I leave for Bonneville on Friday the 31nd of July and therefore won't be attending Loring.  Please think of us -- we'll be riding down the road in our pickup with a big trailer full of race bikes behind us.  And yesterday -- FINALLY!!!-- came confirmation of our lodging out there.  We'll be renting an apartment in West Wendover for the duration of our two and a half months of duties - covering the five events for this website, and even getting in some vacation time.  We'll not only miss Loring, but also the September "bike event" at Maxton.  We do plan, though, to attend the Halloween racing on the Maxton Monster Mile.

Ta-ta for now.

What a tremendous relief we've experienced in these now crunch days !! If it wasn't for the likes of the Timneys, Turks, our Pal Mark in Maine , Joe Daly and  Jon Wennerberg, all the guys helping out on our website questions, we'd be nowhere where we are today.
I'll have a long Thank - You list  to publish the Day After, one of the benefits of participating in the LSR community.
I almost exhaled, LOL

Hey John,

Wish you were going to be able to make it.  I use Josh as my excuse, but the truth is this craziness is in my blood too. It can be bitter sweet to be there without Dave , but I love it and all of you so much I just can't shake it..... :-D

Me 'n' the little lady will be cruisin' on up on Thurs in the '56.  We'll be camping in the pits or as close as possible, and we'll only wuss out for a hotel on Sat/Sun over in Presque Isle.  Yes we're bringin' bug spray.

Bob, I'll hunt you down, unless you've got a volunteer coordinator already designated.  I haven't met ya yet, but if you see the mean grean pickup machine gimme a whistle.  (that is, if you see me before I see you )

Okay folks,  Here's the deal....I need at least 4 folks to help in registration for the weekend.   Two on at a time....and two in the wings as relief.  This is a fairly simple task that is great fun.  You get to talk to each and every racer at some point during the race, which is my favorite part of the whole job.  What a wonderful group of folks.  Between Maxton and Bonneville, there just isn't a better group of people, so it is quite a privileged position.  Other than the gate, it is their first point of contact with the venue, so we set the stage.....Soooooooooooooo...if there are any racer's who's significant other isn't racing also, and they are looking for something to do....please send them my way. Joe and I will be there sometime early on Friday to help tech and get set up so come see me.

Thanks in advance,  Donna

Donna,
Gary and I are escorting Brenda-Sue up from Texas and I betcha she'd like to help.  She hung out with TeamFatAss at the last Texas Mile and pretty much knows the scene.

We plan on arriving at Caribou Inn Thurs noon-ish.

I'll call her this am.
( i love to volunteer someone else :D )

Thanks so much for all the positive responses for volunteering in registration...and you too, Todd for what ever it was you wanted to say.  Well, here I go again...I need some volunteers for the impound area also.  Two to four oughta do it.  It's an easy clerical job just verify/certify record runs.  It's the perfect job for anyone who loves dealing with hot, sweaty racers on an adrenaline high that can't write or sit still, or stop talking........Yes, this is the voice of experiance talking.   It's truly awsome.....Sounds perfect for Brenda-Sue.

BTW Deb, Todd offered Joe and I a pass or two on your scooter.  I'D LOVE TO!!!  Thank you...

Ahhh yes, I still remember trying to write after I did my 200mph club run! That was the darn hardest time I EVER had trying to write! LMAO!!! Yeah, Brenda-Sue would be great there!!

PS: Donna, you can certainly try out my current race suit I was just worried your girls might be a little to squished! hehehe Didn't want you to think it wasn't an option. ;)
Title: Re: Volunteers
Post by: dtimney on July 26, 2009, 10:35:59 PM
Thanks Deb.  It's not the girls I'm concerned with....It's the junk in the trunk, the caboose on the loose....that's what concerns me.

I sure don't have any leathers yet.  Joe gave me carte blanche at Vanson for Christmas...just never got around to it...never thought it'd come true....I hope we can put something together...I'm pretty stoked about this.

C ya in a couple of days....can't wait.

Title: Re: Volunteers
Post by: narider on July 27, 2009, 12:41:13 AM
Donna,
I don't care if it's the caboose or the engine, but you can trust the ladies and the trunk both are all getting on that train if I have to pack them in there myself... hmm? Ok, I'm back from a little day dreaming there.

Now with that said, Shane and Racheal have offered up and going to bring Racheal's extra set of leathers for you to try, and we have a handful of extra helmets and gloves and such we're bringing.

And well, worse case scenario--------- You know you can get in my suit anytime!!!

Ok, stay stoked, we have some big goals on the plate throughout the weekend, and a couple small goals for her bike we'll get out of the way. But once time permits you make sure whatever you're helping with can be walked away from as nothing will make us happier then making you happy. And there's no better place, time or bike in my opinion to be able to have fun and find your comfort zone (this goes for Joe too btw).

See you real soon, give us a call on one of the cell's when you're on the road if you want.
Todd
PS: ask Joe if he'll bring that camera he wanted me to test and also some fire sleeve if he has a little extra.

If 1 or 2 of you staff/volunteers are all stuck in the same class and would like to make a slow, I mean scenic, pass for a record I am willing to pull off a fairing or two so you can run 500-4/MPS or M.  Of course, I am assuming that no one else is planning on running those classes.  Anyways, just trying to give something back to the workers and volunteers.  Give you a chance to get your name in the book anyways.

The 250 is available also for you.  Between 250 and 350cc classes there will certainly be open records.

Never let it be said that Land Speed Racers aren't the most generous bunch around.  Thanks to everyone for all of the offers of
volunteerism, equipment, etc...Especially you, Todd.  Your generosity is overwhelming....I mean really overwhelming...

See you all soon.

Todd and Deb,
I don't ever want to interfere with your weekend goals...If it's possible...I'm psyched..if not....I think I might know another place I could race if circumstances should present themselves again.  Love you both...DT

Thanks to everyone.  I'll be in the registration/impound area (wherever that's going to be I'm hoping there are signs).  Please come see me or Bob Wanner.  If we don't need your assistance at that moment (I can't imagine that), we'll take your name and cell # and give you a ring when we do.

Leaving tomorrow 0'dark thirty to make the trip north..see you soon..

I'll be about 7 hours behind you, be careful about what UHF freqs you use north of Bangor, Canadiens get awful touchy if you are on one of the verboten freqs.
