Haven't seen any discussion regarding the event this month, so I thought I would check and make sure it is still on for this weekend.
-
Yes it is still on unless we get a huge down pour...Dean may come along and post the weather report..

Those running are going to be happy with the temps. 79 is the high for sat. And sun. Hope the track is better. :-D

Hi John!
You are absolutely correct. There will be weather this weekend.
Oh, you mean particulars? Ok, how's 84 both days sound with 5 mph wind in the morning picking up to 10 in the afternoon.
How's that for perfect? Let's go racing.
I'm going to take a laptop with me on Saturday and see if I can't post updates all day long. If I can get a connection you will hear from me. Can't make it on Sunday.
-
When did it become a two-day meet?

I was able to get a wi-fi connection in May while we there..........a dam good on to!
Anybody got any news on the track condition? Has there been any change since the alst meet?

I REALLY should wake up while I'm typing. Sunday, Sunday, Sunday.
It might help if I actually LOOKED at the &%$#* calendar.
Thanks for the help, John.

I sure hope the wind lets up. It has been blowing 20 MPH plus for the last week in Palmdale.

Wow. Baro is 29.9? That's sea level air! Free HP.

By the way, Bob is looking for a El Mirage weather link to put on the front page of this site. I say "looking" -- because while I like the NOAA weather reports and the system -- especially since they don't have commercial material and load pretty quickly -- they don't, as yet (but they're working on it) have the little thumbnail-sized reports like we've now got for Wendover and Maxton. But sooner or later there'll be weather for all three of those venues -- and maybe I can put up Loring and Goliad, etc, for the times when they're about to host an event, too. But first let's get EM all set up and running.
-
SCTA has the El Mirage weather on it's web site. Click on El Mirage and it's a tab at the top.

Our Fresno weather man just said the pacific ocean was warming up for an El Nino which means more rain for us and southern Calif this fall and next winter :-D
JL222
possible showers in fresno area this weekend :-o
-
And just how will the pending ElNino and showers in Fresno help the poor souls at Elmo this Sunday?
They wanna know what to expect in the next day and a half!

This years track won't get any better, if you are one of the top 25 to 50
Vehicles to run then maybe have a chance to do something. Otherwise next year the only thing to look forward to is some good rain!
-
If ELMO gets a summer thundershower [a good one ] the track could improve and don't forget it snowed one Nov meet and a great track.

Hey Bville racer. Are you the Langlo's? If so check out the Langlo dragster blowing up in the Aug. issue of Hot Rod Magazine. Is this any relation to you? (Just curiouse.) Crow
-
Yep, my dads cousin. It's a common occurance with Arleys tuner.

Yea Arley is my cousin and Bvillercr's 2nd cousin. Just got hot rod yesterday and saw the KABLOOEY [Looks like Arleys got a new nickname] :-P
One thing wrong about the article is him spending a small fortune in the last 30 years. Arley owns the car and Jay Roach has the engines and tunes them.
I believe Arley was 10th in top fuel points around 1975 but its been downhill from there. Arley informed Jay last year that he would drive the car but not spend
any more on it.
Arley is building a streamliner designed to go 475mph and tuned by him :-D

-
Yep, I saw the photo and wondered just whom in the family is who.
About that streamliner -- and considering the blow-ups mentioned in HRM -- are all of the parts in the 'liner planned to go 475 at the same time, or is that the forecast speed of the blower's hat when things let go?
-
I remember seeing Arley behind the wheel of the black #500 Leggit lakester at Elmo many years ago when I was a youngster. If my memory is correct the #500 and the Carr/Kaplan lakesters were the big hitters back then and layed down some serious mph on the lake bed.
-
Carol and I were in the 2nd row right across from the big bang. I told her
before the run that Arly would do something exciting, she remarked how do I know these things. I was in the tower timing at Elmo when he hit a battery in the lights. I still have the front axle off the 500 car. Arly's a good driver, has no fear. Many runs down the long black line. I think all of us that know him would like to see him make a great set of runs at the drags. Running on a budget and most of the time at local strips hurts the learning curve that the other money cars have. I for one would love to see him kick some butts.

Langlos -
If it's any comfort, Arly's "transgressions" prove that the "sins of the -in this case -cousins/nephews - are NOT the sins of the - OTHER cousins/nephews.
Don't feel bad, ya wanna talk about BLOWUPS? I did work for the MOB Fuel Altered/later Top Fuel cars for about twenty years. AND the Impulse Funny Car/ Altered.
You can't be embarassed as much as I.
-
Just talked to JN and he said the first part of the course is good, but the rest is as bad as it was in May.

Since 9 AM the wind has been gusting over 20 mph all day long. I don't know if it will get any better tomorrow.

-
Weather station on El Mirage site says 71 degrees :-D but wind gusts from 10-20 . Anyone have a live update from lake bed?
-
Just got home back to Wrightwood from El Mirage.....no a bad day on the lake, some wind.....but it was a strong TAIL WIND.....John N. 223mph.......Cathy Butler 138mph (mind you this is a 125c.c. bike) don't know about the cars.........AND KENT WENT 149 ON HIS ELECTRIC TOASTER BIKE......GREAT.................
-
Wow, congrats folks, any one have pics?
-
Any other updates?
-
Cathy Butler's 138mph (mind you this is a 125c.c. bike)
I think this is faster than the Can AM 125 at B'ville in the early '70's.
Way to GO, Cathy.

First, Thanks out to the all the SCTA guys and dolls for putting on another great event.
Weather was windy and cool. Course looked to be in similiar condition as May.
There was a major crash with a bike at about the halfway point, requiring a helicopter. Heard the rider was OK, but not much else. Hope he has a speedy recovery.
The "Casper" report:
Well, this was the first LSR event that we were "ready" for. We arrived with without having to assemble the truck, the track and wind were in our favor, everything was set. Looked good.
At the May event, Casper was out-of-control. Handling capped our speed. So all our focus was on handling. Our changes worked well, the truck handled like it was on rails. Didn't even spin a tire.
However, at 150mph our El Mirage Curse reared it's ugly head. The engine lost power and shut off, I smelled fuel, so I popped the chute early and coasted to a 122mph pass. A new record low for us! :-D
We tried to fix the truck, but found the primary injection pump was hurt, and we had neither the tools nor time to replace it. And some electrical gremlins kicked in as well.
Big thanks out to:
Robert & Jen
Johnny
Jason
Jeremy
Scott
For pit crew duties, could not have run with out you!
Big thanks also to:
Inglewood Trans
SoCal Diesel
PPE
Garrett
EFILive
For making the go-fast stuff for our trucks.
Wish it would have have turned out better, but it was a good time, with good friends, and that's what is important to me.
Last but not least,
Kat, Tom, and Allison
For putting up with me. :-)
