Quick question about having my fire bottle inspected. Do I have to send my bottle back to the manufacturer(Deist) for reinspection, or can I just have one of the local fire extinguisher places inspect and weight it?

I always used a local Certified fire extinguisher guy to do mine. He came out with his truck load of stuff and spent time here for $20. Tried not to charge at all because he liked the idea.

Thats what I was wanting to hear. I will take them to our local guy and let him cert them. Does anyone know if Deist will have a truck at the salt this year. Jim was always their to help us with all of our safety issues.

Ever inspect your nozzles? Just got my bottles inspected yesterday and went to reinstall and decided to blow air through the lines to check and discovered that one engine nozzle was clogged. Thought I would pass it along in case it slips your mind.

yep...always a good idea to blow the spiders out on a yearly basis wether they like it or not....

We had a pair of nozzles on a cross-over line about valve cover height, one on each side, in front of the engine. We had the nozzles above the filler line. After a couple years we went to blow out the lines and all were clogged -- rusted out from the inside. Apparently they'd gotten hit with clean-up water and it collected and rusted inside the lines. Now they're mounted facing downwards to help solve the problem. And we pay more attention to testing them more often.

I cut the finger from a latex surgical glove and slip over the nozzles for storage and powerwashing.

YES, blow out your lines and nozzles, you might be suprised at what comes out. I know i was. :-o

This is good stuff. I find myself ready with time to burn. I will check all the lines and nozzles.

The fire bottle and actuating mechanism is not a lot (if any) differrent than systems used in industrial or restaurant systems etc.... so, yes, you can use any able fire extinguisher or system servicing company..... the difference, though, is that in racecars, you have lines and nozzles etc. that are NOT under the rule to have the bottles inspected.... DO YOUR REGULAR CHECKS on the rest of the system .... you NOT getting fried hide would be the reward

Interesting comments regarding local inspection. Here in Columbus, Oh nobody would touch them citing liability issues being in a race vehicle.

Same here. Thats why I drove to Concord to have Safecraft do mine.

why do you have to tell them it is in a race car?...... give the bottle to your wife and have her take it in.... your wife doesnt know what the heck it is..... tell her its for the house.....

Each year or (or two, now) I take my bottles to the local fire extinguisher place along with an anotated picture of the roadster giving thanks to them for helping us set a new record (well, it's been a while). It's run and owned by off-duty firemen. They've never had a problem, although they did charge me $2 a bottle last time. Shop around.
