Title: May 2009 Maxton event
Post by: Seldom Seen Slim on April 23, 2009, 05:30:52 PM
Okay, it's getting near that time - for the second event of the year at Maxton.  I made my room reservation today.  I'll be running just the one bike, again, and will be hoping for a handful of more miles per hour.  I'll have the camera there to take photos, and so on.

Who else is going to attend?

That's nice, Terry -- but the important question is -- Will Cyndia be there?  Nancy won't -- so I'll need some eye candy to keep me smilin'.

I'll be there with both bikes.  I want to better the 181.7 on the 600.  Not asking for much, just 182.  Sal is coming up to help with the tune and make a couple of passes on it himself.  Some good weather and a little tail wind would be greatly appreciated.

I will be there ready to set my first record.     This record has been waiting patiently for me since 2000 in the 500cc class.  Of course, that all depends on everything going well at the speed shop next weekend and at the event itself but I was only- 2.5 mph off the record and I know I had plenty of room for improvement even without changes to bike.

So much for touting our moderate winters. Paybacks are--well. Forecast down here for tomorrow is 94. Definitely a day for liquid cooling!

I'll bring the sauce!

Speaking of sauce... now that we're into BBQ weather we'd like to purchase a case of Mosey's. We're hopelessly addicted!! Have you ever sauteed onions in it? OMG was that good on a burger!!! At any rate, can you arrange that & let us know how much cash to bring in exchange?

Thanks a bunch & see ya soon!

I'll be showing up Friday afternoon, as usual.   :-D
But unfortunately the Firecracker (our race car) will not be ready... (again)

I just saw that Jon made his reservations, so called and made mine.
They told me we couldn't make them until May 1st ..... Mmmmmmm.

Ken, I've hidden my bottle of "Mossy's Most Wanted" sauce in the way back of the fridge,
.. so no one else can find it.
I've been rationing it and there is still some left.

You know I'll be there - and maybe even WITH the Buzz Bomb.  I just found out that the new engine has flat top pistons in it so I have a bit of measuring to do to assure that everything clears but I think it'll be OK.  Probably another 0.5 point of compression - this is a good and unexpected thing.  It'll eat a bit more time but I think I can still get 'er dun.

I think we're getting old.  "Hitting the Sauce" has taken on a different meaning.

John - I DO NOT qualify as "eye candy".  Deb, however, should fill in quite nicely!  Look forward to seeing all soonish.

Anyone stayed at Clinton Inn recently ?

somewhat related to johns above interpretation.....:):)

Lou Blue is the manager at the Clinton & will probably help get anyone a room in the back building-- she decides if it will be open for us. I haven't seen the "professional" staff there that once frequented the Scotland.

Sorry you got stuck in the Scotland, Charles.  Nasty, indeed.  I should have known something was wrong when they were surprised that I wanted the room overnight and not just for an hour.  I try to warn folks away from that gem.

I've stayed at the Clinton a couple of times and my friend Kim stays there when she comes (usually October).  Seems to work out fine for her.

when i told her i dont know what your saying...

she said..."p_ssy, tits and armpits...can you help me please"....
in the sweetest 80 + yo voice ever.....

I said..you take care of the p and the t and ill help with the a.........

have known the old SSS term....but evidently did not know the female
version......

in her honor........ive made it my mission to ensure Judie is well taken
care of.......through proper pta....avoidance of..pms..and thereby prevention of..ptsd.........

speaking of aero devices and legal intakes........hope everyone at the
upcoming Maxton goes very fast........

Joe

d/t the site owners appreciation for appropriateness and reference material: i researched
the term for first time since being educated about it...and much to my relief its well
documented:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=P.T.A.

also...lest someone feels this discussion went off topic......i say Dan Stokes started it...
in reading his above post....i thought wow...

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation, Joe.  But that's not why I'm posting here.

I had Bob set up a direct link to Maxton's weather forecast -- on the home page of the site.  It's now a one-click effort to get the latest, although it's from Weather Channel so you'll have to put up with ads.  But at least it's there.  I believe he's working on the El Mirage weather button, too, so soon you'll be able to check that out as well.

Another minor little thing that makes landracing.com a good site for everyone.  Thanks.

Soooo, I little bit of a change in plans. Won't be able to make the May meet because of a little bit of a complication with some skin cancers that were removed from my scalp. Could make wearing a helmet pretty uncomfortable and I gotta get healed so that I can leave on May 21st for my charity motorcycle ride to Alaska! I always thought all that hair on my head would protect me from "sun damage." (Stop laughing Wennerberg!)  Hope everyone has a great and safe event and that the weather cooperates!

Second post, and this one IS about next weekend's event at Maxton.  I'm sitting here at my mini-storage business, awaiting the arrival of a few customers, and it is snowing.  The white stuff, you know, that many folks think only happens in the winter.  Well, winter isn't over.  The "Mother's Day storm here is not all that uncommon, and this, while not a storm in the strict sense, does remind us up here that it's still too early to put out the summer flowers.  Okay to plant seeds in the garden -- but not time for the petunias.

And now you know why I'm planning on taking this truck, instead of the Gold Wing, to Maxton later this week.  I'll look forward to seeing all of you there.

Will  be there! Since I am rookie..... I am hoping those who are experienced can help a little - planning to use my stock KIA Spectra, hoping to get my D license, Do I need to use fuel purchased at the meet for these passes as well or is that just for record passes?
Thanks for the information. See ya'll next weekend.

PS - S.S.S. I used to live in Buffalo, NY - I feel for you! That's why I moved south. I was driving topless in my classic Mustang today! It was only 91 and sunny. So next weekend you'll be escaping to warmer weather!

After being so late last time -- I expect the emergency crew will have had a chat with their supervisor, and maybe Keith and Joe, about arriving when they oughta arrive.

Speaking of this weekend's event -- motorcyclists be ready for us to be strict at inspection.  Have your paperwork 100% completed before you get in line -- or we'll send you back the the end of the line.  No paperwork complete?  No inspection, not any, no way!  Expect the inspection line to move along faster this way, too.

Be ready for us -- so we can get you on the track sooner.  Ta-ta for now.

Just because I am on the left coast doesn't dim my concern and excitement for the people that participate at Maxton this

weekend.

Run fast and safe.

That's all I can wish for for the people at Elmo this same weekend.

Racing is fun, wherever it is, as long as it's this group of people.

Well, the internet/wi-fi here at the Pine Acres Lodge is so poor now that I can't get enough signal to load photos to photobucket, so I can't upload the photo I've got -- of Jimmy Shine being inducted into the ECTA 200 MPH Club.  He ran a 201.199 for his green hat.  The weather was, indeed, poor -- two rain delays, and dark clouds at photo-taking time, so therefore you're not missing much right now.  Maybe later I'll mosey around the Pine Acres and find good coneectivity -- but for now, Jimmy Shine got into the Club today.  Congratulations.

Lots of other nice runs, no spectacular ones, although I know Wayne Pollack and Bill Warner and Jody what's-his-name (I'
ll hear it for that!) made low-200 (like 230 or so) runs.  I guess I won the ":big air" award for the three-gear wheelie I did on my second run, although the speed was, as you'd expect, not all that good (about 2 1/2 mph slower than my morning run).  Ransom Holbrook tried but didn't get the record away from mne -- although he sure tried.

Debbie will get the logs completed and posted within a day or so.

Ta-ta for now -- going to MacDuff's for supper.

Congrats to Bill Warner on top speed of the meet at 247+ mph!

He has now soundly eclipsed my speed of 244 to become the fastest owner-builder-operator at Maxton.

I hear he also set the record for the longest boosted run at Maxton ever by staying in the throttle a little too long!

Congrats to Trilly on a new personal best of 241+!  Way to go!

Congrats to Pushrod Tom and Mike G. on their new records on Pushrod Tom's pair of BSA's.

Glad to hear everyone was safe.

Bill Warner's run was frightening ... he ran off the end of the course almost to the white shack ... I was the run before him and when I was on the return road and watched the Crash Fire Rescue start roll ... definately disconcerting ... Joe

Here is a photo of the little 250 run. We ran 111.XXX last year on motor only and came back with nitrous this time. It was the only pass we made, plus it was the riders FIRST maxton pass ever. Due to weather and the riders time we didnt get to make another one plus we hit the limiter in 6th. We didnt know the bike would make this much power in nitrous so we didnt have the gears necessary for more. I feel sure we have another 4-5mph in there with more time and tuning and seat time for the rider. So if anyone gets too close we may have to come back and make some more passes. As for now we are 7 mph up on the old record so that should hold us for a while hopefully !!

I would like to publicly thank John Bullock for helping me out tremendously.  At the April Maxton race I put a big hole in my motor and had no way to come up with the parts to build another.  John hear of my situation and offered me all the parts I need and just said replace them when you can.  I have only met John a few times and for him to to this shows how nice of a person he truly is.  John is also the person that back in 2006 stepped up at Maxton and offered his bike to a little Canadian girl who wanted to try and go fast.  She became the first woman at Maxton to go over 200mph because of Johns offer and now is the Fastest Woman in the world on a Motorcycle(241mph).  Although I did not make a stellar showing this last weekend, I hope with the help John provided I will have a similar title of which Trillium holds.

Thanks again John, I'll try and do a good job.

Gee thanks Walter,
You didn't have to mention the boost thing  :-)
I am not sure why my hand rolled back on the throttle after shut down.  I will address this over the next month so it does not happen again.  But for those that want to know what the run log says I did.  Chopped the throttle at the line and then when I reached for the brake rolled back into it to about 50% throttle making 10psi of boost.  Hit the corner at 177 with a rear wheel spin of 11-15mph. When I took the left side of the cones (not to hit the cones) rear wheel went off the track side ways (spinning to 220mph) back on the track to hit a cone (broke my right side fairing)(crap!) and then I made it to the end of the track..... no problem  :-D

Sorry to all for the 5 minute delay

Bill

No problem Bill.  We were worried about you not the time.  Glad you are okay.  The guys in shutdown always worry about stuff like that.
