Bonneville has names like "Speed Week", "World Finals" is there going to be a name associated with the LTA event? Anyone have any thoughts on an appropriate name?
-
The Maine Event
-
I like it. The "Maine" Event ! or The "Main~e" Event !
-
The Maine Event
perfect..
maybe "Bwana Bob's 2009 Maine Event"
-
Being the guy that is the most visible as I'm the online answerer, there may be a perception I'm the main Maine man. Actually, the LTA is an association of a core group of enthusiasts that all have coalesced into accepting tasks specific to their skills.
Bobby Jepson is my original partner from day one, mostly takes care of all things purely organizational and official, namely the LTA LLC, that's us. He is also taking care of the preregistrations and rulebooks by mail. This and running a business full time in the Boston area. Tell him Thanks when you meet him.
Joe Daly is in charge of Tech, will run same for cars and bikes at LTA/09 . He has experience at ECTA, and is Car Tech in training down there. We will have other well- known tech/safety inspectors, to be announced. Joe also has a brother and brother -in-(out)law in his crew to help us. Joe lives in Long Island, NY and works at the AA Facility at JFK in the facilities Maintenance dept. He knows Airports. Also an Ex-NYPD.
And is a SCTA Bike record holder.Tell him Thanks when you meet him.
Mark Sotomayor is our real Maine Main Man. His family owns http://www.impacauto.com/index.htm and is located directly abutting our pits area.
Mark is a LSR newbie, his Kawi was our Bike demo at the Media event up there last year. Mark does all our in person contacts in the LTA area, ie; Hotels, talking w/ FD, PD, etc. He's been on board since very early in this project.Tell him Thanks when you meet him.
ECTA has been our Mentor/Guru AND is allowing us the use of their Rulebook and Forms,
Scott Guthrie has been whispering in our ears,as have the Drosses, and a few pals at SCTA , and a lot of people that I have on a Volunteer list that WILL hear from me.
So it's actually BobW-BobJ-MarkS-JoeD-Turks-Timneys-Drosses-Maine Event .
Tell them all Thanks when you meet them.
Keep this thread going,we'll probably go with the most popular...
Bob W just an "A" in LTA..
-
Maybe you can get Micheal Buffer to announce.....
Bob W just an "A" in LTA..
Bob, now we know you are just one of the "A"s in the LTA  (remember that smiley means I'm joking)
-
"The Maine drag" of course

My vote too on "Maine Event"
Lynda (do I even get a vote?
-
Maine Event sounds good to me. Lynda I vote that you get to vote. :-o Of course Im not sure I get a vote.
-
"Maine Event" does have a nice ring or catch to it, but does it equate to what we do or what this is all about? Does it need to ?
"Maine Speed Trials"
"Maine Speed Zone"
Let me give it some more thought,,, me thinks we needs to have a name that kinda hints to the goings on.
-
How about "Maine Event Speed Event" :-D.
Pete
-
Maine Event Speed Trials (needs to have 4 letters in abbreviation!!)
Lynda-even-if-my-vote-doesn't-count!
-
OK, I'll give you one more to chew on...
LSR Maine Event
I thought about Limestone Speed Trials, Caribou LSR, but .... its Maine
Sorry Linda, that's 5 but it works out to LSR ME
-
Perfect!!! I vote for yours!! It covers EVERYTHING that's important!!
-
Maine Speed 7920
-
It would be interesting if the name could somehow give the location a new identity vs Loring Air Field. LSR Maine event does sound pretty good but Everyone knows what El Mirage, Bonneville, and Maxton declare in whatever statement you make (doesn't work well with "Texas mile" and/or "Australia"). Food for thought...
-
One correction to Bob's post about the people committed to helping out.
I hold ECTA / AMA records ... not SCTA.
Joe Daly
-
Maine Mile
and I have no records and really don't think I will ever set one
I like to safely go real fast
But I sure do have fun
-
I like that better than Maine event. Maine Mile, Texas Mile.
-
Maine Mile don't work when they plan on running 1.5 mile (7,920 feet)
Maxto is the "MONSTER MILE" what creative yet descriptive for what we do will work with Loring, LTA, Maine etc...???
Come on folks, if we can be so creative with car and bike builds,, we should come up with "great" suggestions for a name...
Hmm, I am stalled out too!!!!..
Gosh thinking of a name, hmm it ain't easy...
Oh well, let me wind down with some JR. Johnson MoonShine with Pinapple Orange Juise over crushed ice,, a few of those and I should be able to come up with a name...

The Real Deal!

I'm posting this on all the LTA threads.
A little reminder to remember SSS Jon W and how kind he is to maintain this beautiful thing, Landracing .com for all of us.
Consider patronizing all the advertising sites here (hits) and when you meet him, let him know how you appreciate him.
Also ask him how he got that Hot woman to marry him.
BOB, I'm thankful, big time, W

Perhaps: Aroostook Land Speed at Limestone
-
How about... Down East Time Trials?
-
If your from Maine, Downeast is along the eastern coast, east of Ellsworth.
Limestone is in "the County"
I vote for the Maine event.
or The Mainiac Race Event?
The Aroostook Mega Mile,
Maniac Mile and a half,
Heck I don't know.

Have you checked your vodka bottle... sometimes you find it there...

How does " Loring Speed Fest " sound.
Tom G.

Caribou Maine Mile @ Loring -- Caribou actually has 2 references for Loring AFB - One is the old Nuke portion at Loring Caribou Air Force Station, and Caribou Maine is close.

Thanks Stainless, I knew I could count on you.

Might as have one more choice to pick from - - - The Longest Mile
DickJ
-
Dick,
We might have to have the long distance award for you.
-
The longest mile is the fifth mile at Bonneville on a return record run, can you hold your breath that long.
-
The longest mile is the fifth mile at Bonneville on a return record run, can you hold your breath that long.
I didn't know you were supposed to breathe on a return record run... or open your eyes.... for any of the timed miles

I like this one and the maine lsr track
-
"can you hold your breath that long."
When I used to live nearer the ocean and I was more of a snorkel dork, I could hold my breath almost three minutes, over four at total rest . Now I can't hold my water for three minutes. ( Hope that extra cockpit drain tube gets by tech )
If your vehicle is seriously fast, say 240 in the traps, and your acceleration is linear, you average 120 for the five miles, right ? that's two miles a minute or two and a half minutes to hold your breath ?
As for The Name , I did get an anonymous suggestion, "Broadway in Maine", considering the runway is 300 ft wide.
MMM is ok, just a little too Maxton Mile-like, and it ain't a mile.
Maybe "Aroostook 7920", that'll confuse everybody.
AND we need a new name for the Salt Talks type get together Poolside at the Caribou Inn Sat night. Rendezvous is probably out as there is a nearby popular Rendezvous Pizza/restaurant
-
I end up holding my breath as soon as the starter pulls the harness straps tight because I can't breath any more anyway! How about just: The Loring Long Mile? DickJ
-
how about the metric mile?? JK :-D
-
Maine Mega Mile
is awesome or the
The M3
or better yet
The M3

Hey Bob, here is another thought for you... instead of running 7920 fet, why not run 282 feet more for 8202 and make it a 2.5 Kilo event....
Then you could call it the 2.5K Maine Event or 2.5@ME.....
YEA, racers always want just a little more distance...
-
"instead of running 7920 feet, why not run 282 feet more for 8202 and make it a 2.5 Kilo event" ?
Safety mainly ( Maine-ly?)
1.5 miles, 7920 ft leaves about a mile for shutdown. Considering we don't officially know the traction characteristics of our runways' mixed concrete /asphalt surface, we felt a mile and a half was the extreme for year one.
We'll reconsider after this years meet, OK ?
Unless you have a deal on paving, then there's about 8 miles on the north end before Canada.

Mostly for the benefit of those of you that aren't aware yet, this is the address (below) for the Loring Timing Association and
information for our event to be held in August this year.We recommend reading all
the info available, and we hope it answers enough questions. Pre
Registrations can be submitted now, or if you are unfamiliar with Land Speed Racing
, you can first order a Rulebook which has most of what info you need to
prepare to attend and run your vehicle.
We will soon also add a Aerial based map picture of the site to familiarize
everybody with the facility.
We will also add a News icon for regular updates on available
accommodations and dining facilities in the area.
Directions are also forthcoming .
In the meantime, have patience if we've forgotten anything or confused an
issue, we will straighten it all out very shortly.
We thank all of you that kept the faith waiting and watching our progress.
We again openly thank our Mentors at The ECTA for their ongoing help ,
this probably could not have been done without them. And if it's a failure,
blame them. LOL.

I just relay these, from a anonymous PM contributor, definitely not an official entry.
Would not make it through the first round of American Idol, included for mild humorous content....

Loring Speed Run or (Rallye) (LSR) Gives the unique location, and what it's about. This way, all you have to say is 'we're doing Loring' (eg: Bonneville, Maxton, El Mirage etc..we all know what and where when you say it.)
-
Loring Speed Rally (US spelling) sounds good to me. From Webster's - "To bring together for a common purpose", plus we get dual purpose initials for T-shirts!
-
Loring one point five = Loring 1.5
short & sweet
