Title: Motel Suggestions
Post by: Roland6250 on January 03, 2009, 09:55:49 AM
Any suggestion on Motels?  We stayed at Days Inn and it was a disaster.  Just about everyone staying there had major complaints.

as long as there isn't bugs or stink, i don't worry about it.
most nights i'm so tired that i don't notice how hard or
soft the mattress is.
the $ is what gets my attention.
 what were your complaints?

You would have loved the Patio and Lewis Bros. Be glad for what you have.

You will have plenty of choices in Sept. Try some place else.

Nothing new has been built, but if you're looking for land...look in Pilot.  The land is cheaper than Wendover, not that far out, and you could probably get at least 40 acres if you wanted.

Okay, Lynda, I'll bite:  Where's Pilot?

Between Wendover and Wells, about 20 miles west of town.

Pilot is a small community, but there are some "farms" that already have a well dug and electricity.  You might want to check and see if any of the established homes and acreage are for sale.... land out there goes anywhere from $500 an acre to $2000, just depends on where the land is.  If you're coming from Elko, it's on the north (left) side of the road.  Another possibility is Oasis, but that's 32 miles from Wendover and is only a trailer court.  Pilot is an easy on easy off for the freeway too.

WOS was our very first visit to any LSR Bonneville venue - the warm welcome by the people of the LSR community, the easy going atmosphere and of course excitement of fast cars and motorcycles is what we remember; needless to say we will be back this year - our stay at the Days Inn had clean sheets and was reasonably priced.

MAXX, I know it's not what you are looking for but here is 40 acres just across the mountains from Bonneville  :-D

Usually my lodging priorities are similar to Franey's.....

Have found over the years that lodging experiences can be similar to eating establishments or medical facilities.  Same place can produce entirely different levels of service and results, much depends on the crew on duty at the time.

Stayed at the Bonneville Inn [We were the first to use one of the newly rebuilt rooms] for SW this year.  No problems or complaints.  Sure beat camping in the gultch for SW '71, '72.   1/2 Stateline and Jim's comprised West Wendover then, rooms/reservations were even more scarce.  East Wendover had more of a "small town atmosphere" and felt more welcomed by the locals then though.

Realize this is under WOS but had to call the experiences as they were for us.  Will do all I can to get back to Mecca first chance I get to attend any meet even if it means sleeping in, on, under, or beside the tow rig or trailer.

I just re-booked for 09 and was told Days Inn is under new management. I never had a problem in 08 at all. :-)

NitroBarry --

Do you imply that Days Inn has rooms available?  I imagine many folks would be willing to give it a try, bad stories notwithstanding, if it was true that they're not full up.

You are going to have to follow the financial well being of any place you have reservations.

The Red Garter Casino is going belly up March 3.

Why are we not surprised?
Let's review what they have to offer;
A bad smell when you open the door, due to inadequate ventilation and thick smoke. The carpet appears to have been laid at least 10 years ago. Can't speak for the quality of food, as we haven't eaten there in years.
Don't know if they had many winners. They used to give a bunch of coins and coupons just for showing an out of state driver's license.
That stopped several years back.
One would think that a casino should be a permit to print money; but the Smith boys showed us how to puke away the family fortune.
Perhaps some other outfit will step up and make some improvements.

I wonder if we got lucky and Econo Lodge also pulled the franchise from the same owner.

New ownership hasn't seemed to do the Stateline any favors.

Stateline is horrible ... It is a second rate casino designed to fleece everyone that is foolish enough to walk through the door. As a hotel it is third rate. I stayed there in 2007 and I will never stay there again.

Putting down the hotels won't gain us anything. The word usually gets back to them.

Stateline used to be good, Stateline is no longer in existence.

We generally stay at the Motel 6, it is a step up from the bend, but not the Hilton...

that's a shame, they weren't too bad to stay at. i enjoyed the
rest. and the casino lights were ok. ( unlike montego bays' color scheme)
