Title: 200 mph legal seat for 2009
Post by: Johntsi on December 23, 2008, 09:24:30 AM
I was told full head encloser is required over 200 this year I really don't want to do it by adding bars to the cage.  Will a seat like this suffice?

Almost forgot I also found these if you already have a kirkey seat I found these as well. See the bottom of the page for the add on restraint. http://www.kirkeyracing.com/index.php?link=browse&code=Restraints

Nice if those will bolt to my drag seat it will save me from having to spend $900 on a new seat.

The 98716 is what we use. Just make sure that it is integrated into the roll bar for addiquit support. It can't be mounted to the seat only.

That is correct it must be mounted securly to the cage not just to the seat. I am going to grab the head restraint and try to move it. If the whole car moves you did your job, if the seat moves/flexes try again.

So you CAN'T just run a full containment seat?  I know someone who's not gonna be happy with their new $1k seat then...

Ah, just got clarification from Timney.  I see what you are saying Mike.  If it is part of the seat it has to be rigid like the Kirkey seat he referred to in the first post.  Can't run the little sheet aluminum things that bolt on or they will just bend.  Looks like we can do something with our current seat if we make a structural support that is strong enough to 'shake the car' when you move it and not just bend.  He also clarified that the shoulders have to be supported as well.  Hope I can get all that to fit!

Please be aware that all seats and safety products are not created equal, at ISP we meet very rigid testing standards.  SFI certification has helped weed out many substandard products.  Please look at products with SFI certifications like 38.1, 45.1, 45.2.

Take a look at out product line and then give Kris a call to help you decide what you need for the whole system.

Seat (Pour in Place), Belts (7 Point), Mounting Concerns (Whole System), Head Supports SFI 45.2, Head Restraints SFI 38.1, Roll Bar Padding 45.1

On a final note, the money spent on advertising is in no way a reflection of product quality, at ISP our money is spent on product development.

Please be safe,

I was just at the Greensboro NC  Race Show and spent about 20 minutes with Kris from ISP... The Stealth Head and Shoulder Restraint system is great.  It is bolt on and will work with just about any high back alum race seat.

Looks to be very high quality,,, My Stude will have that setup in it for sure,,,due to my size, I may even let them do a custom seat for me too!!...

I can't see how you could go wrong with this setup... I know it is bolt on, but that allows for perfect alignment and height of head restraint.. very sturdy reinforced .125 alum.

I wanted to make sure this seat meets or exceeds expectations. THANKS

"New levels in ergonomics, materials and, above all, safety are all found in this new seat. Working closely with the FIA foundation to identify ways to improve safety, the PRO-ADV is a result of this collaboration. Increased rigidity and the use of impact-absorbing materials are the major advances found in the PRO-ADV."

P.S. already have brackets to fasten to cage from pre existing Sparco seats in the car.

THANKS AGAIN

Check the SCTA rule book for padding thickness.

I believe these seats are not legal due to there composite nature.
Call Joe Timney to confirm.

I think you're right Mike.

My concern with the new "street" racing seat requirement, is how do you safety mount a seat and brace it (with the cage) when you have only a 6 point.  (175 MPH tech).  The floor mount of the seat has to go with existing floor pan, but the rear of the seat has to be secured to the cage.  There is no guarantee that in a roll over that the floor pan will move the same way as the cage.

Please review this article for better seat mounting examples.

http://www.circletrack.com/safety/ctrp_0905_racing_seat_custom_install/index.html (http://www.circletrack.com/safety/ctrp_0905_racing_seat_custom_install/index.html)

It is very important you utilize a minimum of 6 mounting points to the roll cage for the seat mounts.

You will need 4 at the base of the seat utilizing all 4 corners as we as 2 on the upper back to roll cage mount.

The seat must be attached to the drivers safety zone and not to any bodywork.

Any questions about mounting any manufacturers seats and belts can be directed to Kris VanGilder at ISP
