Title: Fire suit requirements
Post by: Johntsi on December 15, 2008, 09:43:38 AM
I am asking about a turbo car doing a little over 200.

Requirements say SFI 3.2A/20 Blown cars, open or closed over 200 MPH

I am having a hard time finding a 20 suit will a -15 suit like this http://www.jegs.com/p/G-FORCE/1021987/10002/-1 Pass if used in conjunction with fire retardant underwear? I was told it would but before I go spening over $700 getting the suit plus underwear I want to make sure.

If not anyone got a link to a place that has 3.2A/20

Yes front engine turbo stock unibody car.

Simpson is gonna hurt but if the -15 won't work with the underwear looks like I got no other option.  It also states Gloves SFI 3.3/15 I have yet to find a site with anything rated that high.

Don't forget your boots.  :-D

I'm going to try a cool suit to stay warm (will it keep you cool?) rather than bake in the 20 suit.

johnsi,
What size do you need? I've got 2 suits from customers for sale, one may fit.

At one time Deist was the only manufacuturer of -20 gloves so -15's I believe are allowed with -20 suits. If you have never driven with -20's it's like using boxing gloves. Same with -20 boots.

I belive Deist, DJ, Simpson, Impact, Leaf, and Stroud can make what is required. Look up Top Fuel/ FunnyCar suits if you are going used. I have bought both my -15 and -20 as display models at a significant savings so look to what Joe has.

I would advise anyone to have a suit prior to putting a roll cage making sure you can fit in your car and reach everything easily. Make switches far enough apart for your gloves to operate. Fit yourself many times in your car with everything on, helmet and padding too. Have your belts and restraints set for the driver before inspection. I would also advise anyone new to sit in their car for 30 minutes in the hot sun....Then you would be prepared....................Good Luck.

I will check what size my other suits are and check with Joe, IIRC I am a Med.  I know for a fact when we where there last year and the year befor they let us run with a -15 suit and fireproof undersuit at 221mph, will this be allowed again or do I have to get the -20.  I really never have plans of running Bonneville just mile events in the car.

Thanks for all the input.

If you get a suit made, I suggest Stroud. several years ago I waited well over 3 months on Deist for a -20 suit and they never started it and I lived close enough that I went to their store to be measured and they told me it would take 3-4 weeks but months later I contacted Stroud and he delivered within 2 weeks and it was a custom design. I don't know if Diest has improved but at the time I got mine many people were going thru the same delay I was. Stroud set me up with -20 suit, -20 boots, -15 gloves, head sock and parachute. I was happy with everything.

I am in the market for a -20 suit (one piece would be great but not required)... Anybody has any leads on one please let me know.

Will be ordering one in about 1 month or less so any leads on a used one would be great.

5'7" at 145-150 lbs

I'll second that.  I got a -20 from them and also couldn't find another place with as good prices.  They take lots of measurements and the suit fits really well.  It is a one piece Jon,
