Kaz,

Sometimes you amaze me with your comments..........Leslie had a great year on her bike and rode the hell out of it and it seems like you are trying to take away some of the credit she deserves by finding out who "really" does the wrenching?? She has a pretty big shop in Texas that she owns, who cares who does the wrenching or who pays for it, who does the wrenching on your bikes?

SKaz, did you read the article, Deb Dross does a lot of her own wrenching and paying.

Most of the racers I know do their own work and very few ever have anything that resembles a sponsor, unless it is a bike shop or someplace that gives them a racers discount.  Usually it is their own business or wallet that sponsors them.  That is how it is in LSR, no fame or fortune... That's why Girls just want to have fun, like the rest of us, that is why we LSR.

Back to topic, great article rocky

Isn't that what life insurance is for, to pay off the bills when I'm gone?

Excellent article Rocky thank you so much for including me! I really liked the flavor of it and that it included such diversity in women racing as there is much diversity in the women that race. I think our favorite part of it all was the picture of the youngest Klock at the end! I watched a video of her with much admiration and that last pic just says it all!

Great job!

Debbie

PS: for Kaz, here's another pic of me replacing my O2 sensor at the track. It's one of over a thousand that Todd has taken of me working on my bike. Since you asked, I am still paying for my own bike, other then sponsorship money and parts received which I'm both proud of and appreciative to have, I've paid my own way, I've done my own work, I've rode my own bike. I'm extremely proud of that fact but that doesn't leave me with any less respect of the many women who are now racing! Getting out there and doing it is what its all about. Does it really matter who foots the bill or provides the ride?

Don't be too hard on Kaz.

I'm sure he works on most of his stuff himself -- like the Subaru and Ford Diesel he's maimed and tried to sell off.  He's undoubtedly a better rider than mechanic-- just ask him about his upcoming national championships.

Kaz, you're funny.  The world is not against you, I know you feel like you got burnt over some drag race male/female thing which gives you sour grapes on the subject, but we do have good LSR girls.  Rocky's article is a good one touching on just a few girls that race and is all around good PR for all of LSR.

Does it really matter how much anyone works on their LSR vehicle.  I am sure your Hero V.R. (#46) hasn't got his hands dirty with his bike in years.  Does that make him less?

I also can see you are frustrated with the Vrod thing.  It may be time to just try a Turbo Busa, but then you will have no excuse when Trillium crushes your max speed  :-D

Bill

P.S.
I LOVE FAST WOMEN

In this year of THANKSGIVING, I'd like to tell all of you how thankful I am to be able to learn about your experiences, experiments, builds, celebration of those who have reached their dreams (and continue to dream for more), are still reaching for their dreams, remembering those we have lost, and waiting for those who will be greats.
I want to thank all of you who come to SW and give me that welcoming hello, and make me feel a part of something so special.
Thank you too all of you for the memories I have been given.
May there be many more memories, dreams reached, and dreams discovered in the year ahead.

Have a safe and memorable Thanksgiving everyone.

I know I don't understand all that Kaz wrote and I'm not going back over it to try.

One thing I've learned in this sport is if you spend all of your time comparing yourself to someone else you will never ever ever be happy with your own performance. There will always be someone faster, there will always be someone more deserving, there will always be someone less deserving, there will always be someone that looks better, speaks better, wrenches better, races better, has more money, has more sponsors, has less money, has less sponsors, always gets mentioned, never gets mentioned..... you get the picture!

So what if someone sets records with someone else’s vehicle? That’s more the norm then the exception in LSR. Setting a record, for the most part means you ran faster then someone else. What I also like to see is who piloted the vehicle fastest for its configuration? That shows accomplishment. Did you get every last mph out of it? Did you run it faster then all the others? Did you push it to the limit? Did you push your own limit? Personal bests are something to be proud of. It means you went beyond where you've been before so what if it's slower then someone else. There are just so many ways to look at what people do that it makes no sense to make judgments. By making judgments all you end up doing is putting the person down that you're judging and what is the point of that? If you're faster then me then good for you but that doesn't take away from my accomplishment of my top speed and top record. If I'm faster then you so what, you're still out there racing and going as fast as you've been. How fast I've been is irrelevant to each person’s personal accomplishment. I mean really, the only true way to judge the ultimate top dog is to have everyone running the same machine under the same conditions back to back to see who does it best. That’s the only way to know which pilot is the best.

Kaz you whine an awful lot about being compared to the girls but how about being one of the girls that doesn't get any mention? You know, to my knowledge, there are only 8 women who have piloted a bike over 200 mph in any form of LSR racing. Can you name all 8? To be one of 8 women in the world to have accomplished something is pretty unique and yet all 8 of them aren't even known. Some have set records, some are in a 200 mph club, and some only have the timeslip to prove it. This is life! If you're in it to be a rock star then go get a guitar, if you're in it to race then race. Do something noteworthy, have a good attitude, help your fellow racers, then someone will be intrigued with your story and struggle and write about you too. But I guess you need to ask yourself, do I want to race or do I just want someone to pay attention to me? Would you continue to race if nobody ever mentioned your name again? I know I would!

look at me.... look at me...  :-D

Debbie

PS: there are no moving/running parts, why would I wear safety glasses and secondly, I'm not afraid of a little grease! I'm washable & don't melt.

PSS: Since when is twisting the throttle a talentless feat? I know it took me 10,000 miles to get used to riding a "high" HP (compared to a Harley) overhead cam motorcycle. isiahstites if that's the case then how come you ran your busa slower then your Harley at the last meet? (BTW, much respect to you for understanding you limitations at that time ;) ) According to Kaz all you had to do was jump on & twist the throttle, the extra HP should have taken care of the speed for you! You easily should have hit 186. Come on, anyone can do it!

BTW Kaz, out of curiosity, what is your personal best top speed in LSR?

Deb,
Would That be in a Car,Truck or Motorcycle{I have my A For them all at B-ville}
In competion or Testing?
Here's Motorcycle only-
217mph with 100 LESS RWHP 3 or 4 Years ago on a Closed Course Faired.
210+mph{I Broke .5 Mile before the Timing Lights} at Speedweek this year, and Coasted through the 2 mile at 194.347mph Naked and Salty!!!
My Goal's are a LITTLE BIT HIGHER then that though#1{250+MPH on my V-rod},and #2 {250+mph either in my car} or someone else's car.
Just Like the Sultan of Speed did 8-)
I've gone 180mph in 1/4 mile in my old drag race Car,and 170mph at Bonniville in the Race Truck at WOS this last season ! Not Nearly Fast enough for me!
I would Love to see {or ANY other Girl} you even be able to Hold on to my Bike at 200+mph naked .
Not that you are weak{I do think my Hand and Grip strength is a Little Higher then your's},but I was Lucky not to have been sucked off my bike during that 1350cc A/B/F run at Speed Week :-o!
It's a truly Terrifying Ride,and I'm a Sick SOB !
If you wanna try and go Faster on my Bike I'll Gladly Let you Race it,but if you Wreck anything You pay for it,and Fix it!
Talk is Cheap ,but I'm the Only Else In the World going that Fast on a HD V-rod.
When do you want to see how Fast you Really are?????????
Kaz..........

Kaz, way to throw down the gauntlet, You are the only one going that fast on a V-rod, But somewhere in the world ther is someone bragging up that no one is going as fast as them on a John Deere riding lawnmower, and you know there ain't no woman out there that can hold onto a lawnmower at 80 MPH.

I see this thread getting ugly as all you two wheeled pilots are out of your danged minds. I'll just stick with my nice little four wheeled, easy to hold on to, model A, Sunday cruiser. Crazy arse bikers

What kind of response was that Kaz?

I asked you a simple question to which there is only one answer.
Quote
BTW Kaz, out of curiosity, what is your personal best top speed in LSR?

If you want to qualify it by vehicle that puts it up to around 3 or 4. One sentence would have answered it. I didn't ask for your life history or your LSR resume. In fact I pretty much didn't read it cause I really don't care. I'm not trying to compete against you but apparently you're trying to compete against me.

Go reread what you just wrote and you'll see why people aren't beating your door down to write about you. You've been written about in at least one magazine, it's on your web site. You've already gotten more exposure then most in this sport. Quick your bitcin.

You forgot Susan Robertson. 205.965 record in 2006 (nitrous busa) with a top speed of 209.494 (to my knowledge) at Bonneville.

Connie I have down as running 217.362 at El Mirage May 08 on Nick's turbo bike. (I think that's her top speed but not positive) With a record of 210.109 on her nitrous busa at Bonneville. She tried running naked but was having trouble with the shoulder injury from going down a few years ago.

M; Marcia Holley is 229.361

No I'm not sure. My only source is the run log listed on the web site. I assume if the paperwork is wrong then it will be listed wrong in the results just like it would at the ECTA. I would like to know for sure so if anyone knows I'd like to know. That is the range Nick usually runs on the turbo bike so it easily could have been him & not her.

Debbie

Deb,

OK flame away, but comming from someone who gets everything for Free{Money, and Parts while having his 1st child} might Not be a Good Person to start throwing STONES?Me Scott{does my wrenching} I've had to learn Everything on my own{Poverty does that to you} trying to do whats never been done before{200+mph Faired and Unfaired on a Real HD V-rod Motorcycle.

Kaz,

Please don't try and make everyone feel sorry for you with the poverty stricken bullsh%t............I have seen your house, back yard, car, truck and bike. Your house is nicer than 90% of the people on this board so please spare us, you are hardly close to poverty.........

And yep I had some people from another board donate me money to race, sounds like your jealous about that as well, but remember they gave it to me because they saw something that made them want to help, not someone bitching and whining he didn't get a free ride. Hey, didn't Noonan let you ride the sidecar this year? Weren't you driving someone elses vehicle at Bonneville this year??

You should apologize to all of the women of LSR for your comments.

Kaz,
You've been in 16 or 17 magazines. You're bitching on a thread about Girls land speed racing, that they are getting the attention and you are not. Now I don't know for sure, but from what I've seen so far, out of all of the women racing bikes in LSR, heck, probably even all the women racing LSR period, regardless of speed, I'm pretty sure there haven't been 16 or 17 articles done on women in the sport let alone 16 or 17 magazines. Exactly how do you feel slighted? Clearly you've received more coverage for yourself alone. How about Marcia Holley? She got in the 200 MPH club 30 years ago and was shunned for doing it. They went out of their way to try to keep her out of the club. News bulletin, she's been faster then you, where's her magazine article? Then you have the audacity to bitch in a thread about women that you're being slighted. You SO don't want to get me started on equal treatment because unlike the young women now getting involved in the sport, Marcia and myself have lived with the chauvinism. We've lived a lifetime of men saying women don't belong in the sport, women shouldn't drive fast cars and on & on. Now finally we come to a place and time where true equality can be achieved and here you sit bitching that you're not getting your credit due. Get over yourself. Warner Riley ran 212 on an ironhead sportster (old technology) 30 years ago. You've gone just a little faster with new technology. Do something outstanding and maybe you'll get another article but whatever, quit bitching that someone else that worked hard got a tiny piece of recognition. This is an amateur sport, we do it for the love of racing. There's no purse, there's no publicity. Maybe you should be racing elsewhere if you have this unending need for public recognition. But what ever you choose, please stop bitching when someone else is celebrated.

Scott G,
I have Susan hitting #2 in 2006. I have some other notes to consult but at the moment that's what I have.

As for Marcia, two things I'm wondering, what was her open wheeled bike speed and what was her actual top speed for the streamlined bike. Her record is 229.361 which is an average so I'm wondering if we know what her actual top speed was.

Back to Connie I think it's likely that there was a paperwork snafu as #45 mentioned and that the 217 was actually Nick's run. With that in mind I'm going to roll her back in my notes to a top speed of 211.284 and top record of 210.109 until I hear differently.

So, at least for open wheel bikes,
the order for the fastest woman
motorcycle rider looks like:

1)....Marcia Holley...........1978
2)....Susan Robertson...   ?
3)....Trillium Muir.............2007
4)....Debbie Dross...........2007
5)....Lesslie Porterfield.....2008
6)....Trillium Muir.............2008

Any corrections?

I don't understand what you are listing here Scott.  Why is Trillium's name twice?

Bill

Bill AKA faster than me naked

Scott is giving the time-line of the fastest women and how Trilly came back from being the fastest at 204+ to again reclaim the fastest female title with superb runs of 239+ in 2008..

Thant is how I read it however in 2007 Marcia was still faster..

I got it John.  I think Scotts using Marcia's on bike speed.  He'll also have to put Trilly's name up again, since Deb only had it for 3 hrs 45 mins.

And actually I'm thinking it should be:

Wow !!!

We worked up some real history in just a few minutes.
Before the internet, this would have taken weeks or months,
or maybe big phone bills.

Not to forget in all of this that it was Rocky that got us started
with that very nice article, which will eventually be seen by
many more people, and put land speed racing,
and it's talented women,
in a very favorable light.

Thanks, Rock

Computers & the internet sure make this easy huh? Glad computer memory prices have gone way down!

And like I said many pages ago, we really enjoyed the flavor of this article as well as having enjoyed all of his past ones!

Now I just need to buy a couple fastest 2 wheeled man shirts! With the play by play coverage on this board I almost feel like I was there! :-D

It would be really cool if you guys could post this list of the fastest females in the comments section of my original article at motorcycleusa. It's great that the topic has so much meaning to so many.

By the way, how many of the names listed will be returning to Bonneville or Maxton to up the ante?

That's a great idea, hopefully ScottG will do this as this is his baby, I'm just supporting the facts as I know them. ;)

Trillium has already stated that she intends to return next year, at ECTA I believe, to attempt to up the bar.
Haven't heard of Leslie's plans yet. I'm pretty well not in the running for 2009. I won't be doing much riding
as I have a more important supporting role for the 2009 season! ;) I do hope to get some more seat time
out at Bonneville. I prefer the wide open spaces and would like some more seat time to learn the terrain
but that's as far as I've gotten in my plans. Meeting Connie and seeing her go has given me renewed faith
that I don't have to do it all right now! There are many years left in my racing career and so much more to
learn!

It will be interesting to see if we get any new players in the upcoming race season!

You may not be cut out for LSR, maybe it is time to go back to drag racing

Two others to watch are Dr. Jeannie Pflum and Katrina Herbert. Dr. Pflum is already a member of the 200 and 300 clubs and now wants to do it on two wheels. She is getting close.

Katrina is serious as well.  Both run at the dry lake and on the salt.

Well then I guess the gauntlet has been indirectly thrown down! Looks like these two ladies will be shooting it out for the prized 250 AA license & title of being the first!
It should be an impressive show as these two are running in the speed range that is outstanding for any racer on an open wheeled bike regardless of gender or
any other adjectives you want to add. Should be a fun show!

As for Jen, I've seen them write that they're tapped out on the bike but she's willing if she catches a ride. That's a tall order with a large reward. Will be interesting to see if anyone steps up. There are some ladies getting their feet wet with running an open bike and more then one of them have good potential.

2009 will be a fun year for sure!

Well Fred, my one mile track time will for the most part be a supporting role. That's how working with a team goes sometimes you're pilot sometimes you're pit crew! ;) But I do have to say I'm very excited about my role for the 2009 season!

I'm not sure which Bonneville event we'll attend, likely speed week but we've also discussed Bub, but I sure would like to make a few passes again. I haven't lined anything up but there's plenty of time for that! I do have to say I'm a big fan of that fly & ride gig! LOL

I do look forward to running into you again! It was a pleasure to meet you this year!

Just in case there are innocent bystanders lurking at this wonder full post started by journalist Rocky Robinson….

This thread started off as a cool piece about the few female LSR racers and then a forum member named “Kaz” started his usual “poor, poor me” thing complaining about females getting an advantage “he” thinks “he” deserves… Then this site did a wonder full thing and turned the negative around by more less ignoring him….. Then Kaz came back with another post “look at me I’m famous I got magazine articles about me!” The post continued to ignore him… So then he returns today to further insult female racers with accusations of hormonal rage…. Listen this dude needs to be banned….. He offers nothing constructive to this site… I think he secretly wants to be a Female racer so he can get some attention…. I, for one will contribute for an airline ticket to Europe so he can get that sex change surgery he desires…. Kaz go away! Crawl back in your little hole where you belong…..

It was once proposed somewhat tongue in cheek by the ever mysterious and elusive Jack Dolan
that women should actually have the "advantage" over men for motorcycle LSR,
and that they should have their own classes.

A logical extension of that would be to do it soon,
before the women break all the men's records.

See now I tend to agree with that. Many of the women are more compact then the majority
of the men. Then add the differences in muscle and body mass as well as head size. Take a
woman and a man of equal height and weight and generally the women will have less broad
shoulders and thinner arms, add the flexibility of women, the fact that most women I know
are much better at multitasking... all those things support women having and advantage when
looking at the rider part of the equation.

Generally the women's weaker link is in the mechanics of the machine but when you're dealing
with a team and a singular pilot, for me it's easy to see how the women can and do have an
advantage.

I think its only a matter of time, numbers and a competitive uprising of women until we see
things turning around.

Again, it should be fun to watch!
Debbie

Susan's new boy friend won't let her race anymore, he keeps her on a leash.

Susan took a year off to get married etc.
Her bike is headed south after a year long stay in my shop  :-)
Something tells me that she will be moving up on the list. 8-)

Maybe a "Timeout" for Kaz is in order it seemed to work well on other members.

I met Connie Beaver for the first time a few weeks back at the Long Beach Cycle World show. Quite an interesting lady. She showed me her scars from getting off on the salt, told me she's been over 200, and later I saw pictures of the streamliner she's building. I was impressed!

John Noonan spoke highly of her and caller her "Grandma Beaver", affectionately. I saw some of her carbon fiber work on her and her husband's machines. I could go on and on. What a lady!

We met Connie at speed week this year and had the pleasure of watching her qualifying 211 run from the tower! She actually holds the second fastest Land Speed Record (210.109) by a woman on an open wheel motorcycle! Quite impressive in my book and yet somehow never mentioned. I have a great picture of her leaving the line up on my wall thanks to Freud! It's right under my picture of Marcia Holley. The two of them represent both ends of the racing spectrum for me. The fact that Connie is still out there racing is a great inspiration to me and gives me comfort that I don't need to do it all right now. I plan to be racing for many years to come and looking at her go gives me confidence that it can be a reality!

I think it's really awesome that she's building a streamliner! I agree her carbon fiber work was very nice. She tried running naked at Bonneville but that shoulder injury was making it difficult for her. Sounds like they've come up with a good plan to continue on. I'd love to hear more about the streamliner! Is it going to be a motorcycle streamliner?

Here's a picture of Connie & I at speed week:

on another thread I mentioned yellow was hard on the eyes... sometimes it it not.... Congratulations again to the girls, but racers are racers.  The word racer is not gender specific...  :-D

Three of the ladies listed above are in the Gear Grinder club, we have a total 7 lady riders at this time. We also have 7 that drive cars. A few are record holders at the lakes and on the salt. :-D

Kaz (and everyone that reads the Forum):

Welcome back from your hiatus.
And -- while I understand your responses to being the defendant in a name-calling contest -- once or twice on this Forum is enough.  Take the rest of your arguing to another place, okay?

Thanks.  I put this note out for everyone to read so that all will be reminded about the rules and regulations about name-calling on the Forum. We recently had another item -- and the main participants did, after a bit of prompting, get off the subject on the Forum.  Sure, we can all agree to disagree.  That's dandy.  I don't like to appear as the heavy-handed schoolteacher here, so do what you can to make it unnecessary for me to say anything, please.

End of subject for today.

Both Connie Beavers (with an S) and her companion "Nick" Nicolaides hit the dirt at Elmo the same time I did in May '06 and we went through rookie orientation together.  Nick was being wheeled around after a get-off on his 'Busa while dragracing Connie at a SoCal strip.  Both these two have amassed amazing LSR accomplishments.

They will always be an inspiration to me and should be to anyone!

Nick was a badass Flat track/ Speedway rider back in the day.  Traveled the world with the US team.

Rocky, I believe there is quite a story to be told with these two!

Who is the fastest woman in the world on a motorcycle?????????

I was brought to my attention that the fastest woman in the world on a motorcycle will be signing autographs at a few upcoming motorcycle shows. Can someone stop at her booth and get me her autograph. I am getting a little fed up with Leslie Porterfield and her so called agent promoting her as the fastest woman on a motorcycle, this is very disrespectful in a very respectable sport. I am not taking away the fact that she was the fastest woman for a few weeks in August and September, but the dates on these articles are in December 2008. Trilly 239mph

Leslie Porterfield Signing Autographs at 28th Annual Cycle World International Motorcycle Shows
Publish date: Dec 29, 2008
Leslie Porterfield, the fastest woman on a motorcycle, holder of three land-speed records and 2008 AMA Racing Female Rider of the Year will be attending shows and signing autographs for fans in Long Beach, California; New York, New York; Cleveland, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois.
Check this out.

If you go to this link you will notice on December 13, 2008 this year Leslie answered a website interview which was brought to my attention by a few kind people. Did you notice under her pictures it says Leslie Porterfield the fastest woman in the world! This is because that was the title until it was changed to fastest in the US.

I had to put those thoughts out of my head this year. After my first pass down the salt, I was back into the groove and ready to break some records. In all competitive sports, there are risks, and I try to minimize mine as best I can. I made a pass at 231mph to qualify for the record, and on my return run I was at around 240mph when I threw a rod through the cases. I was lucky and thankful that nothing locked up. I still managed to average 234mph on that run, which put my new world record at 232mph. It also earned me the title of the fastest woman in the world on a motorcycle. I was thrilled, even though I had a gaping hole in my motor!

Jody and Trillium, are you going to Loring for the extra half mile?

I guess fastest in the US means living in the US....
Keep up the good riding, be safe
