I have been wondering what I would do for my 100th post on landracing.com. There are some topics that might be worth a word or twenty but none seemed quite right. Mind you I am on a couple of other lists and have posts into the thousands but the people here are a bit wiser, funnier, caring, sharing, and a bit more full of life. Perhaps because of what is accomplished.
I look forward to reading the comments and following the builds of bikes, cars, friendships and now garages. I have enjoyed the joy of a record and cried for the sorrow of a loss. Seeing the young people makes me dream of a future long past my time.
And my time on the salt will come in 2009. A few things came up to prevent me from making it this year but we continue with improvements and building our future power maker. So my post is a bit of a wish.
I would like to continue to read posts from the missing members, so come on back. And I look forward to seeing you all on the racing venue no matter that it is concrete, dirt or salt. Sharing a cold one, a story and a meal.
I will especially be looking for Landsend Linda and the Butcha's.
Be safe, have fun and go fast this weekend!

Predicted to be out or the North - Northeast at 15 but nothing that heavy so far. Since midnight gusts 3 to 6, mostly SE to SW. Check here for "real time" reading taken at El Mirage Field adjacent to the lake:
http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/getobext.php?wfo=sgx&sid=EMRC1&num=48&raw=0 (http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/getobext.php?wfo=sgx&sid=EMRC1&num=48&raw=0)
Unfortunately, right now, the winds for Saturday and Sunday are predicted to be North-Northeast. So much for "El Mirage Horsepower"....
-
When I checked it this morning is said 14 mph to the northeast today, 12 mph tomorrow from the east to northeast and 5 mph Sunday from the northeast.

Scott, did you run the busa today?
I do not want to talk about it........... :-D Yes???????
-
???
-
I do not know how I did it, but I have a Buell motor that is tired from all of the runs it made this year and it was spitting oil on the line and some how it managed to go .9 mph faster than the busa. :-o
Scott
-
at least it still had oil to spit out...ya know what they say about harleys...if it stops leaking oil its because its empty..
KR

lets just say me and a couple of squirls could make a treadmill go faster :-o

Kent,
We have the top car, top bike (and fastest as well) then our back up bike was third and the "little Roadster that could" finished in fourth... :-D
SDRC is once again the SCTA points champions!!
Thank you to all of the volunteers/ board members and racers that make it happen!
I hope Keenan is doing fine after his get off on the Bartels Harley Davidson.

Congrats John and Bob, you guys worked your ass off this year and last!
How fast did the side car go the second time around John?

It was sad that the last pass of the season had to be a crash. I hope the rider is doing well and has a speedy recovery. He went into a high speed wobble on his bike right in front of our pit, about the 1/2mi? point and got spit off. Patrol units were there within about 60 seconds, and the ambulance in just a few minutes. He was motionless at first, but starting moving around after awhile.
We had a great season, and I would like to congratulate all the SCTA staff and workers, and fellow racers for putting on another excellent event. We are still having a mystery problem that is shutting the engine off at about 150-160. Everything went fine on the dyno to 198mph, but not at the track. Hopefully we will have it sorted out before the 2009 season begins. We are going to back to drag racing the truck for the winter, and maybe a sled pull or two for fun.
Side note: Somebody drove through the starting line metal barracades and nailed a speaker with a pickup in the middle of the night. Witnesses say he was driving with his lights off at about 1am? Jerk. Probably drunken jerk.
While being an idiot and running into solid objects at night with your lights off is not acceptable behaviour except in certain southern states, it would have been sad if some kid hit one goofing on a bike at night. I will bring a roll of reflective tape to the first El Mirage meet next year and ask if I can put some on the barracades and lights. Yeah, it won't do much if there is no moon, but it would be better than nothing.

Scott,
We ran the number we needed to get the Red bike over the Grey bike for the points championship, right at 207 or so.

From the SCTA web site:
11/17/08: Near the end of the meet Sunday afternoon, San Diego Roadster Club member Kennan Tatro experienced what witnesses are calling a "High Speed Wobble" and was thrown from his motorcycle at approx. 150 MPH. He was transported by ground ambulance to Loma Linda hospital, checked out and released at about midnight.
I spoke to him this morning and other than being bruised and sore, he is fine. Roy Creel
-
Some years back Keenan was coming into the lights and hit a cone and photo cell/battery with his foot. Busted it up pretty good and stayed on the bike. Refused to go to the hospital that time. Twice lucky.
The two get offs that Ron Cook did at Muroc and El Mirage in two weeks right in front of me in the timing trailer was enough to scare the crap out of anyone.

When we were about to pull out around 2:45 Sunday---Any looked up and said "Sparky I think that is a Condor" it was what a great feeling to see one soaring free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A fitting Close for a Great Season for RATICAL---after all it is the "Year of the Rat"!!!! Thanks to all the volunters who make it possible!!!!!!!!!!

How fast was the busa ? ......
I went 152.070 on the busa and 152.9xx on the buell, both running naked. The busa could of went much faster however a few things played major factors in the slow speed. First was the 15 mph head wind and second was my total lack of experience on the busa. I did a terrible job of riding it, I was full throttle from the time I left the line and had lots of wheel spin because of it I even had some fish tailing in 2nd gear.........I was not used to the shift points or the quiet (compared to the buell) motor and hit the rev limiter a few times. I definatley need to take a few more passes down the track to get to know the bike..........Noonan you sure make it look easy.

Scotty,
You did great it was the wind and HP that kept you down..btw, great job on the Electric bike..

Got it!! Thanks Fred

Scottie ... Experience is a good teacher ... Most of the 'Busa guys (sorry Deb/Leslie) and gals have a ton of experience and as a result they make it look easy. It only looks easy. Too much horsepower can be a bigger challenge then not enough.

John really does make it look easy. He did several 200 plus runs getting records on his 2 bikes. And he was a great coach-- helped me run a 206 on a 195 record into the same headwinds Scot was talking about. Slipping and sliding the whole way. That 750 Turbo bike just keeps on going. Got a nice El Mirage 200 Club Hat as well. The SDRC were great hosts. A big thank you to all.
