We are going after a record that is over 200. Currently we hold a B License for up to 199. To make the run legal - what do we have to do? I asked around and I was told we had to tell the starter that we are trying for a A License and that you can set a record on a license pass? Is this true? Is there anything else? I hate to get all the way there and then we missed some technicality
-
Well, er, aa, ya gotta go over 200.... :-D
Ok that is the wise ass answer, couldn't help it. That would be the case at the salt, one of you dirt guys have an input.
-
Well that's the plan :-D
I read the requriements in the rule book and nothing specifically states what to do when you are crossing that line and I know it's a License change. We haven't went over 200 yet, but I think we are on our way this season so I want to make sure we do it leagally. Nothing would suck more than if we got the record and they say "oh you were supposed to ..........."
-
If you already hold the B you can run for the A on a license run..no worries just remember to take your timing ticket to the starter and have him sign it, then return to impond with it and ask for Dan Warner...he or someone will then log it and issue your A.
FYI
If you qualify for the record on your A attempt return first to impound and do not return to the pits until you have brought the vehicle and timing ticket to the person/inspector in impound...again..do NOT drive/tow your vehicle through the pits without going DIRECTLY to impond or it will void your attempt.
Good luck.

Thanks John!!
That was the kind of info I needed. We probably would have drove around going 'whooooooo' and then it would have been voided because we didn't know any better :-D
See ya out there this weekend!

No worries, and above it should have read impound... :-P
See you two there and good luck with "THAT" record you are seeking..
-
What class will you be running in?
-
Fred,
I believe they are also going for the Production record..
-
P-P 1350
-
Yes - we are going for the Production 1350cc record at El Mirage and Bonneville. I know 'THAT' record is a hard one - but who doesn't like a challenge??? 8-)
-
Thats kind of how I feel about it. I see there are four of us pre-entered for Speedweek in 1350 P/P. Has anybody been on the Dyno? If so what were your #s. I am going for final tune, mapping and Dyno tomorrow.
Fred
-
I haven't been on the dyno yet but Pat Womack just put up a 197.8MPH in P-P 1350 at El Mirage last month. That's gotta be a solid mid-190's HP

Who owns it now? Do they race LSR?
-
I think when Rick Y set that record they were still running 2 ways for records. The air is always better in Oct. and I heard that year the course was really good. All of that is not meant to take anything away from Rick and that record. The fact that it has stood for 8 years means that is going to be tough to break. I love a good challenge!! :-D

We've been creeping up on it a tenth at a time using my change jar as a bike mod fund. Let's see...we're at 190ish on the dirt right now. If we gain a tenth of a MPH per month, times 6 months per year...divide the difference...
hmm - we might be at this a while :)
-
I may be mistaken but I think he still has the bike. Maybe we can poke him with a pointy stick and get him to bring it back out for some more runs.
-
Yeh maybe he should… and after his pass he can be escorted to impound to prove he did it without NOS… then maybe all the accusations of his illegal bike will stop…. What do ya think Rick?

This topic was NOT posted to question anyones integrity or to insult anyone in the racing community. We are new to Land Speed Racing and I was simply asking a question about what to do "when and if" we break this record. The rules are not specifically addressed when crossing the line between licenses and qualifying for a record that is over 200. The information John Noonan gave me was helpful. That is what I was after. My husband races the bike and I do the rest - so I just want to cover all the rules. Please do not turn this into a rumor mill of what people think of the record and so on. If you wish to do that - START YOUR OWN POST -

Krystal:
Thanks for joining us on the Forum. You asked a fair question, you got some fair answers - and at least one that might have seemed a tad touchy. I'm (as the owner of the site) sorry that you were surprised by the "vitality" of any response, but I invite you to spend as much time with us as you choose to do so -- more, if we have our way. We like a full and lively conversation, and we are relatively inured to comments that might seem, especially to one not really familiar with us, a bit too bright.
As for being new to LSR -- I was, too, not all that long ago, and I still am in the eyes of some folks. I've tried to stand back a bit (not too much) and learn from others, but also to not be afraid to pipe up and say some stuff. I've been slapped down a few times (might just be so treated again), and I've been thanked a few times for what I've said, too. Whatever happens we won't revoke your license to race with us, so don't worry too much.
And as for "my husband races and I do the rest" - that's what my wife used to say, when we first started. Now she's ridden 185+ on one bike, has records on another, and so on. Watch out -- this stuff gets in your blood and under your skin and pretty soon you'll have that husband typing the emails while you're getting ready to run.

Welcome to the forum. As one of the old timers on the salt and dry lakes since 1953 and working in the timing trailer for 24 years I have seen much in LSR. It's addictive in a hurry. It's a wonderful sport and racing family. You will find the answers to many things on this web site and don't be afraid to ask. We all started at square one.
You will be totally amazed at the people and equipment they race and how the volunteers make LSR the what it is for anyone to enjoy.
Start yourselves a file of information, pictures and notes of every kind. Pay attention to the posts of what you need to do to run on the salt. The pits become a city over night and is about 1 mile long and 1/4 mile wide.
In the next few days more lists will be posted. The drivers meeting is necessary for drivers, riders and crews to understand what is going on. There are tons of information in the archives on this site as well.
Enjoy your new venture in LSR. :-)

I understand what you are saying - but I know from being around the last 2 years that this record is one that alot of people talk about. I have heard all the 'rumors' ---- HOWEVER, I don't want to participate in any of that. It is not respectful of the sport or to Rick.
I will continue to post and read the helpful information that is out there. Some of these things get heated and it is actually entertainment for me :) As far as me riding - we'll see - never say never, right?
Thanks

All kidding aside.........Kent, tells it like it is, Jack
D. used to tell it like it is.......most of the people on this forum would do well to read these posts
and LEARN from them.......Kent, does not waste words and gets right to the point.....if that is something you take exception too........you loose.
PS. nice car Sum.....looks strong and safe.......
regarding the drive chain holding up.......in our sidecar, as you may well know,we use a passenger, the extra weight has given us some drive chain problems in the past.............................

Congrats K & S, y'all did an awesome job!!!
I forgot about this thread, I should have been looking for the hidden N2O bottle on the bike!!! (http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p224/DahMurf/Smileys/rofl_200.gif)

Congrats on the new record Shane.
You have proven that hard work and a great team will produce strong record.
Hopefuly this puts to rest that a production bike can go 200 plus legally.
-
Shane sure looked absolutely dandy in that red hat, didn't he? It was a pleasure to shake his hand and be there when he donned the hat for the first time. I've had the pleasure of being at a "hat" ceremony quite a few times -- and I remember each of them -- the smiles, the modesty, the pure unadulterated joy.
As for a production bike going over 200 -- we're looking forward to trying it ourselves at WoS. Stay tuned. . .
