Jet car goes 323 at the Texas Mile,

The track looks pretty bumpy, at least he don't have a traction problem.I can see where suspension is needed on wheel driven cars.

ok so a jet funny car ran 323mph at the texas mile.
if it was not for the speed limit the nhra has put
on the jet cars i know of 2 or 3 jet funny cars
that would go over 323 in the quarter mile.
so what the guy did in texas is nothing special.
don't get me wrong i love jet cars if i had
the money to buy one i would have a jet dragster.
so really 323 in one mile is no big deal.
the video was cool anyway.

Maybe the NHRA rules do limit the 'real' speeds of jet cars but they have superb (mostly) groomed surfaces and shutdowns for their lack of suspension.
Why knock a guy who has come to the airfield and run a stout speed over the texas mile with little afterburner use and seemed to make a safe shut down without damage.
Can anyone who was at the track report on number of runs made? How did the driver report the run?
The bar is now set racefanwfo for any other US jet dragster team to break this "gentle" - in your eyes - record speed.
In the UK we have not run a record event in the Texas Mile or Maxton Mile style, but the Primetime jet dragster over here has run over that speed after about a mile run - but on a far better looking surface. No speed limits in UK record breaking but we do have limits for jets on the strips but the governing body oversees both types of events.

I think they played it safe and ran the speed they intended , no doubt the car can go faster but how safe esp with the crosswind.

The 323 is way fast and congrats to the jet engine guys.
The 257 (from a piston engine) was a more attainable topspeed for the bikes and cars that felt like they had a chance to possibly reach the top mark. 99.99% of the participants are running piston engines. The king of the hill honor is no longer attainable by anyone except a jet engine.
Oh well I guess an NHRA Topfuel/FunnyCar could do the same. :mrgreen:

I think a SCTA lakester that has run 300 in the dirt and over that at Bonneville could have a good shot at that.

Stan is right, there have been 5 lakesters that have been over 300 mph (record 312 mph) in the dirt and over 360 mph on the salt, wheel driven real hots rods. :-D

Last post should have stated 5 drivers in three different lakesters have exceeded 300 mph.

Joe Law ran 255 mph at Spence Field in 1995 while still learning how to drive on pavement with a 3,000 pound 1,300 horsepower car. I think a 2,000 pound (or lighter) car with 2,000 to 3,000 horsepower could run 340 to 350 mph at the Texas Mile.

The first jet land speed car was designed and built by hot rodders Ray Brock and Ak Miller.

I think a car like this with a good four link system on the back would work nicely for reaching the true potential of wheel driven cars on one mile of pavement.

I believe the previous record-holder was the Scotty's Muffler lakester which is in many ways similar to what FR has presented.
