Hello Fellow SCTA members,
Pretty soon all SCTA clubs will be voting for cars and people to enter the
Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame. I would like you to consider the Temple
Roadster for the Historical Vehicle.
Reason? According to Greg Temple it was the first car to get both Father
and Son into the El Mirage Dirty Two Club, and also got both Bill and Greg
into the Bonneville 200MPH Club. I purchased the car a couple of years ago
and have not changed anything on it, so I was thinking before I change
anything now would be a good time to suggest it for Historical Vehicle for
the Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame.

with top speed of 249.IN 1991 set the A/BFR @ 261 which was broke last

you change to red? Also has the number 208 always been the number on the

The car was originally white with a purple frame.the first time we ran it
it was #200 but found out someone else had the number and we had to
change,it was 208 ever since.we went to black frame early 80s for ease of
maintenance.I painted the car red in 1995 as they were complaining they
couldn’t see white cars coming down the track.

This car still holds the D/BFR record at Bonneville set back in 1981 with
Greg driving. The car last ran Bonneville in 2000 and the motor blew up.

It might have been hard to see, but it was never hard to hear.

I chased that damn D/BFR record for about 10 years on the salt. Got over the record a couple times but could never back it up. We donated a lot of good parts to the salt gods but with a name like Temple the gods took their side. I will say this was one of the best cars on the salt to watch. Very very fast or around in circles were the only choices. I believe they must have had the throttle set up as a toggle switch either full on or off. Always a good show though.

Does anyone remember early Ford ramp truck that used to carry the car?

Tom, I remember it and as I recall it was a rust bucket, lots of trips to the salt. I will see if I have any pictures of it

Tom, no luck on the picture but will look at some other files when I get a chance.

I would like to tip my hat to the Deed's Roadster for winning the vote for "Historical Vehicle" at the Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame.
I would also like to thank any of you that voted for the Temple Roadster. Thank You for your vote.

Glen Deeds was one of my mentors at Bonneville but I sure do remember the sound of the Bill Temple roadster. They'll be inducted soon.

Better late than never, but I was just contacted by Debra Temple and here is what she had to say about the picture you are asking about.
"I noticed in the string of conversations on Landracing Forum, there was a question if the man standing next to my dad's roadster (Gotcha - Red, at the time) was my dad - Bill - actually, the man in the picture was Jim Douglass, my mother (Joyce's) brother; his name was on the car as a sponsor at the time of the picture."

The hauler had a ramp that went up over the cab as I remember it.
The car was generally white and so was the hauler.
I had no problem focusing on the white cars with the camera but
apparently the men in the timing stand did, but the clocks didn't.
With radios they don't really need to see the car. They are told who is coming.
There was no polish on the truck's paint and it never went thru the clocks.

I thought the Deeds car was still running?..........Loved Dill and Jo's GotCha when it was white..............JD
