Title: Records I can't find
Post by: SteveD on April 01, 2008, 01:12:26 AM
I am looking for the record for the fastest station wagon.  What is the record for the fastest 4 door car?  They are lame but figured I'd ask.
I know these are wierd questions but a sponsor was asking.  Any help would be appreciated or a link showing, would be great!  Thanks
Our current record c/ps 9382 set last year at the world finals.  set record in 2006 and reset it again in 2007.

I can't help you on a Bonneville or SCTA record, but Subaru claims a record for a production station wagon. The runs were here in Colorado on a highway and certified by FIA, altitude about the same as Bonneville. Record is approx 168.101 mph.

Quote
On April 23, 1998, a Subaru Legacy set a new world speed record for mass-produced turbocharged station wagons (1600 cc–2000 cc class), clocking 270.532 km/h over one kilometer on Highway 10 in La Junta, Colorado. This record was previously set by a Generation II Subaru Legacy in 1993 at 249.981 km/h.

The body type, other than roadster, coupe/sedan, etc, are not recorded on the cert cards. You are pretty much on your own on this one. Maybe someone who likes trivia can help out.

Let's see . . .

In 1972 I was with Phil Stevenson when he drove his 55 Chevy 4-Door Wagon to Bonneville and went 149+ with a 390 Cad in it.  I still have the 18's from the back of it on my 28 Mercury Torpedo Salon.

And Ivo's wagon surely went over 200 a couple of times.

And back when, the Heidelberg Speed Shop Crosley wagon, Dodge-powered, was pretty fast.

But the record-holder?  Who knows!

For the sake of discussion the station wagon "record" at Bonneville was "set" in 2003 by an MG (BMW) station wagon built by Kiwi Steve while at SoCal Speed shop - we ran 225.609 with it. It had a Roush built engine that never had the valve covers off in all the running we did with it. It is currently being run at the salt by a very nice English team of racers. The wagon probably also hold the El Mirage "record" at 183 or so. The body was a dead stock production car with Kiwi magic under the skin - a great car to drive. Not sure how fast the SoCal HHR went before it did its thing but they might have the "record" if you stretch and call it a wagon.  Pat

I don't think it has a record.  I see that the run it crashed on it ran a 238 last mile with a 246 exit speed.  The record in the class it was running, G/BFCC, is 226.835 and is held by Feuling.

Thanks guys!  I'm thinking of maybe doing a Magnum wagon if there is a class for it.  Not to sure about the aero's on the car but should be able to make the HP.  Just a passing though.  I just want to do something with the new Hemi motor.

production?

Can you get it with a blower.... Production supercharged....

USFRA 130 club, drive it to the salt and back home...

Put a cage in it and go racing with 150 club.  If it goes faster than 159, then do all the mods to make it a Bonneville car...
