Title: Organizing a Land Speed Race in the Philippines
Post by: GearSpeedKelvo on November 30, 2007, 07:31:25 PM
I'm thinking of organizing a Land Speed Race in the Philippines.
What are the rules and other needed equipment needed in a land speed race?
Thanks. :-D

That topic has been discussed several times on this board. I would suggest using the search tool. There have been at least three seperate topics that have been discussed in depth.

Welcome to the website.

I looked around a little, no joy, but I would suggest reading the information available at the ECTA and Texas Mile Websites.  You might want to contact those organizations directly, both have started from scratch....lately...
Read the scta rulebook, it will address some of the event and safety concerns you will have.
Organize a group of dedicated volunteers to help run the event.
Read about the troubles Bub is having on this website
Read everything in the ECTA, Bub and Texas Mile sections of this website.
Have you attended an event?  That will get you a feel for what you are in for.

Who are those organizers there?
Can you give me an email so that I will email them?
I live in the Philippines.I've seen the Land Speed event in You Tube and I was influenced by some of the international members of GearSpeed Motorsports. So it came in my mind why don't I organize an event here in the Philippines although instead of a desert (which we don't have here) the airport is an alternative for it. :-D

As I said, read all those things.  The homepage has links to all of the landspeed organizations, their websites have contact info.  Hope you are looking at an inactive runway.  Good Luck with your venture, I think Bub is only a half million  :-o in the hole after 4 years, heard they almost made enough to pay the bills last year.....

TX is almost too short at about 9,000' and they don't start at the end---you do need someover run could be gravel or grass--and or catch nets---dragstrip might already have it!!!!

Right now I'm still researching on how long that airport runway I'm eyeing right now.I hope that would be enough.

GSK, you might also contact Joe Timney and Keith Turk to see what they went through to put together the ECTA. Their e-mail and web site are listed on this site. Good luck on your venture , you well be very busy just to gather information.

didn't Joe and Keith take over ECTA after it had been formed and was up and running?  That was my impression from talking with Joe,  but I may have misunderstood -  I'm good at that!

Is it the runway on the former Clark Air Base by Angeles City?  I did a quick Google Earth search and used the Measure feature and found it to be approx. 2.3 miles long.

Carl you understood quite well.

With all due respect to Msrs Turk and Timney, ECTA was formed in the early 90's by John Beckett and Tom Sarda.  The first meet was in Moultrie Ga. and moved to Maxton I think in 1995.  The two surviving records from Moultrie are Joe Laws Lakester, and my own in the Merk.

I think Keith and Joe have great plans for the organization, and I'm hoping to race again within their juristiction.

Rick

This is one but no space for braking.

If you do a 1 Mile event on a 12000 ft runway you will have the best venue available outside the salt.  All the other miles are on shorter tracks.

I am leaving the Philippines today.  I spoke to a few people from the Subic area (30 min from Angeles) who are interested in LSR.  I heard people who are using the new freeway between Angeles and Subic for "testing".

I plan on making another trip to the PI in December.  Maybe something will be going on by then.  I would love to help in any way even though I am a two wheeler guy.

I really enjoyed my two weeks here!  Scott

Where are you racing Gearspeed?
