What and where is the Texas Mile ?? New this sport!

How many feet is the runway? Is it very smooth or old bumpy 13,500 ft bomber base? Understand brakes are very big deal there.

About 7500 to 8000, very smooth till you get to the over run, bumpy there and real bad after you leave the unpaved part and get to the forest...

I loved the event when we attended. I did find that front brakes would have been helpful (only overan the track a hundred yards or so :). I worried a bit about the high rpm engine braking.
The people there were great, and the event ran very smoothly. A very good time!

Welcome to the sport. The Texas Mile as a one-mile standing start event held on an airport runway outside Goliad Texas, about a hundred miles southeast of San Antonio. It is open to virtually all vehicles. About half the competitors are motorcycles, and another forty percent are basically hot street cars such as Mustangs, Vettes, Vipers, etc. Typically, about ten percent of the participants are true land speed racers. To date the track record is 257 MPH. Check out texasmile.com for more information.

Watchit Deb! I've got that sliding thing down and hopefully I've moved on. I'm gonna toot my own horn here since there haven't been any updates since the Oct. 2007 meet. I managed a 233 as my best run. That's a useable improvement. We all had a great time. :-D

Congratualtions Russ, glad to see you back out there and for the Texas track to treat you so well this round(as it finally did so many this meet) - awesome job on the 233, glad you stuck out the issues and made it happen! And watch Deb, she's the kind that will want to start comapring distances slid :roll:

Thank you sir. We had less wind this time and that probably contributed to more people getting some satisfaction. I know I was throwing wrenches Saturday. Finally, I listened to FastGixx and just put a regulator on the bike and that did the trick. Had it not been for Chris nagging me into going to the regulator, I would never have run well, no matter how hard I tried. Likewise, had he not called Nate and Nate in turn, brought me a regulator and fittings, I would have been rellegated to running slower than the cagers, and that would have killed my soul. lol I only got 2 passes in with the bike right, so I have some room for improvement in March. I need some seat time at the higher boost levels to get a feel for the bike. There's alot more there once I learn how to work it. :-D

I can't imagine what 230 feels like.
I was one of the lucky ones to be there at just the right time,
last pass, last bottle of juice, and we joined the club!
What a relief, we had 195.8, then 198.8,
then it was time to go for broke and make the perfect pass.
200.256mph just barely, but it counts
Great meeting you, and again awesome job!

A big congrats to you! Feels good, doesn't it? Probably even better because you had to work for it. I know how that is.
It sounds like that last little bit was you doing something just a little better than before. You made it happen on top of what your motor was giving you. I'm sort of at that point now. My bike has alot more in it, I just need to improve my technique and I'll improve my speed.
