Title: Open velocity stack or air filter?
Post by: delcrossv on March 21, 2024, 08:46:27 PM
For our motorcycle project, I was wondering if you all run open velocity stacks on the salt or is there enough "stuff" in the air that we should be running some type of filter?

Edit , it's a Sportster so the intake is in the open and a couple of feet off the salt.

Thanks!

Sort of a personal preferance thing... how much salt does your front wheel kick up toward the intake...
We run a filter on the bikes and cars... ours generally catch some salt

Stainless is correct. Even though your intake is two feet off the surface, salt will spray everywhere and your velocity stack will happily suck it up. I had frozen valve stems from this when I did not take the engine apart soon enough.
