Yeah, the doc called today - after he saw yesterday's MRI of my right wrist. I had surgery on it 5 years back and there's been an MRSA in there ever since - this is the 5th time it's got angry. How angry? The doc called and said "Nothing to eat or drink today, 'cause I want you in the hospital here (3 1/2 hours away) and on IV antibiotics so I can do surgery on your wrist TONIGHT!".
Ohhh-kay. I guess I won't be typing much for a few days. I'll try to letcha know what's going on. Later ---

Good Luck Jon! I hope all goes well and it quickly heals to 100%. If you are very right-handed like me, your left hand can't do much by itself.

Good luck with your surgery, Jon.

Stainless, When I was a skunk trainer I had to write an "L" on my right hand and an "R" on my left hand just so I could keep up with the students.

Update in case youse guys are wondering:
I sweet-talked the doc into letting me arrive Saturday morning - in other words, it's about 5AM and I'm gonna hit the road in a little while. I suspect this is the outlook: I'll have surgery today and that'll include some serious roto-rooter work cleaning out the nasty cooties living in and around my wrist. Surgery is not gonna be a major deal, but since it's my right hand it'll play merry hell with my typing. I'll try to stay in touch.
This MRSA has been lurking for about 5 years (since I had surgery for arthritis in my right wrist) and has had 5 or 6 "outbreaks", so this time the doc says he'll have me on IV antibiotics for a while. I guess that'll have me tied to the hospital bed for a few days, and by Tuesday or Wednesday I'll head home.
I remember hearing that something like 80% of the medical costs a person incurs during his life -- happen in the last 20% of life. Geez, let's see -- open heart surgery in '19, wrist back in '15 - yeah, now I understand. . .
Thanks for the good wishes and thoughts, folks. I appreciate 'em very much.
-
Jon, the 80/20 rule will get you every time!
Just take slower strokes with your pen..! lol8

Take Jon.

Take care Slim.

We're all the way up to - I've got a needle in my arm but nothing flowing into it yet, so I'm still straight. The Doc says he'll flay the skin on both inside and outside of my hand and maybe gnaw out some funky bone, too. Geez, better every second.

Pictures or it didn't happen. lol8

My better half had a similar situation with an infected foot that wouldn't heal. They cleaned it out, including scraping the bone. Then place some kind of a antibiotic pack in there and sewed it up. A month later they removed the pack and it healed up amazingly fast.
Good luck Slim

Here ya go, ya Ghouls!

Hey Jon,
You look after yourself until you get under the TLC of the boss Nancy :-D
We'll worry about the masks and stuff later
-
Don't try hitch-hiking with that hand.
-
The nurse asked why i wanted my hat for the pic
My right wrist/hand have a nasty infection so the sawbones opened it and used some Go-Jo to cleanse it out
-
Is that a bandage or duct tape?
-
Is there a difference?

Get well soon Jon, here's hoping for a full and fast recovery.

It has turned into a "maybe" for me to get to SpeedWeek.
-
Get well at speed.
Your smiley face is a good sign.
-
SO how are you going to do the live streaming? You have responsibilities.
-
Good question and I don't have the answer yet. I planned to go to SW, for sure, but this infection thing flared up. I'll probably go home tomorrow or the next day, but I may be put on daily antibiotic IVs. If I( can learn how to do it myself (Nancy is staying home) I'll drive out there and proceed as planned. Stay tuned, please.
-
Slim, some times I am a smart ass, most times a dumb ass. No disrespect was meant by my comment. I truly hope your wrist surgery works out. Health is the most important thing. I do want to say all of us that can't get to B-ville all the time appreciate your live streaming. Thanks for all you do.
-
just screw a bracket in the roof of the truck and you can hang your drip bag up and you are good to go
-
Thanks, Sparky. I could hang it from the visor and instead of gravity I could use a few psi of nitrous to squirt the juice into me. Great Idea!
-
I'm not gonn a post a pic of the incision, but let's say that I'm well enough to have escaped the hoosegow yesterday and I'm back at Kudos Laser.
I managed to whine and do bold and stupid things and get sprung. I had to promise to get some pills, and when I picked 'em up this morning the pharmacist mentioned that one would make me very sensitive to the sun, so consider avoiding places like the beach. I decided to let the subject of SpeedWeek go unmentioned. :-P
I've come up with an alternate to t-shirts as a fund raiser on the salt. More later.
-
Glad is so far so good Jon. Hope to see u on the salt.
-
Slim,
Great to hear! :clap
You never did fill us in on the details of the line you gave the nurse to answer her question about your red hat for the picture
Just don't try to rush the healing too fast, we don't bounce back quite like we used to, dunno why but I know age has nothing to do with it :-D
Take care, stay safe, stay healthy,
Ed

Wow, Jon, I just tuned in.
I understand how serious this is. I assume you will have a picc line for probably 5-6 weeks! Maybe Covid and your infection is telling you something. Don't let Bonneville be a detriment to your health. I appreciate all that you do for LSR . . . but not at a risk to your health.
This is your chance to get on top of this once and for all. With good meds and Nancy's care I'm wishing you the very best outcome.
-
Pleased to see you are back to normal...??
-
Hey wait..It's friday...let's see pics of you terror-wrist

Sorry to hear about you injury boss. Heal up soon. God Bless.
