Title: Window net
Post by: RichFox on July 02, 2019, 03:31:09 PM
18 X 23 Safety Racing window net. Tone loaned it to me some time ago. Now I want to sell it. Never used, $17 and I pay shipping. Except to JD. It's free if you want it back.  V4GMR@yahoo.com

Since some people actually believed that was an accurate narrative of how I got the net. I did try to give it back to Jim hand to hand. He didn't want it. I don't know why. So don't feel bad about buying his net.

RF... just keeping you on top... I knew... and the ad is still fun and funny... I thought JD might chime in and take the heat off of your joke.

Being I'm a long lost relative of Sgt. Shultz on Hogans Heros..."I no nothing". and definately don't remember loaning Rich the net and his act to return it. If it is indeed mine, as long as the profits from it's sale goes a charity of your choosing I will be very satisfied..However if there is ever a future claim that this net ever held a Bonneville Speed Record. I will vehemently deny all knowledge.

I did loan or give out many parts as many others at Bonneville do. Old age has it's benefits, and this is one of them. JD

PS: If it is black it is probably mine and was used on my 40 Chev from the "A" piller to the front edge of my seat the first year of "leg/lower limb" restraints.

I Sold the net to a guy in Saskatoon. Saskatchewan. For $27 US. For a gross profit of $9.75 after postage. Took about an hour to print the label from the USPS web site. Then drive to the PO and wait in line to get the customs forms and then fill that out and get back in line To watch the nice lady print out more stuff and pay. Then drive back home. So, don't expect to see any new hospitable wings named for the James Tone Memorial Window Net soon.

I did that once. It printed so small it was very hard to read. But then the real forms are the same size, but at least have a carbon copy so you only do it once. And you still need to go to the PO to pay. Click and Ship doesn't work for Canada. Works for Australia just fine. No good for the UK either. I guess it's a 1776 thing. I do have another net I found, available. .It's a Deist. About 18 X 40. Pretty much 32 Ford door size. See 1978 record run picture. It has four loops. One on each corner. Make offer. Big Discount to Jim Tone.

The tale continues. When the SCTA wanted you to keep ALL of you limbs in your car our 40 needed something more than the window net especially if you didn't have a window. Seeing Rich's new for sale Item reminds me we added a mini-pickup tailgate net from the A piller kick board to the roll bar behind the seat. All zip tied in by the way.
As Patrick and I started on "streeting" our 40 Chev we needed to remove it. These were the days before all cars needed cages. I wish I would have photoed it...
